ok strange one this , bought a new Westco battery last week , stuck it on thursday night and stupid me had a play with the ignition on and set the clock , played with the lap timer etc , anyway goes to start the bike and the new battery is flat .
i know it sounds daft but i didn't think i had been using it that long without running bike but heyho , takes if off and sticks old battery on , starts no problem . put the new one on optimate charge checked it last night showing over 12V after standing for an hour , left on again last night . put it on the bike this morning still showing over 12V but again bike wouldn't turn over !!! put the old one back on , started first prod .
I'm really confused new batt is still showing over 12V but will not turn bike over . anyway its back in the box and is goin back anyone one ever had this ?
hopefully will get a replacement / refund sorted .
bought it from Tayna .

have checked bike and its charging no problem , not that the bike has had a chance to charge the new one .

this might sound a bit silly but did you double check the amperage of the new battery is at least as good as the old one?

FAQ's

How do I test my 12 Volt battery and charging system?

Following are three tests you can perform on your battery and charging system.

Static Battery Voltage Test

Prior to conducting this test, make sure the battery has not been recently charged. You must wait at least one hour after charging your battery to conduct this test.

Adjust voltmeter to DC volts (20 volt range).

Place voltmeter leads to the battery terminals. (positive to positive and negative to negative)

Read voltage and refer to the chart below.

State of Charge

12.80v ........................ 100% Charged

12.60v ........................ 100% Charged

12.40v ........................ 75% Charged

12.10v ........................ 50% Charged

11.90v ........................ 25% Charged

less than 11.80v .......... 0% Charged

Starting Load Test

Adjust voltmeter to DC volts (20 volt range).

Place voltmeter leads to the battery terminals. (positive to positive and negative to negative)

Watch the voltmeter as you start your motorcycle.

If the voltage drops below 9.5 volts, the battery has very low capacity and should be replaced.

Charging System Test

Adjust voltmeter to DC volts (20 volt range).

Place voltmeter leads to the battery terminals. (positive to positive and negative to negative)

Start your motorcycle.

Bring engine RPM's up to approximately 3,000

Compare the voltage reading to the specification in your owner's manual.
(Note: the voltage reading should be approx. 14.0 - 14.5 volts to properly charge an AGM battery.)

i've had similar battery woes
mine is a ytx12-bs thats all i know, shows 12.5v but wont turn the bike over more than once after a charge
its going back

dont mean to sound daft but if the old one works ok why waste the money on a new one:confused

cos i was having problems starting and was worried the sprag clutch might go, so my dealer recommended a new battery, the problem continued after fitting new battery until now (i hope) as it was loose connection on starter relay
battery is going back and 45 spondoolies are going back in my bank

14ah but has it got the correct CCA....(cold cranking amps)

Hi BB did those tests , ref CCA it was the correct model for the Mille so assume it to be correct .

Hi Pointer - to be honest think i was just being a bit belt and braces and read to many posts about these things eatng batterys so decided to upgrade now rather than wait as owner explained it was still on orginal batt !!but on reflection may as well just get money back for now . IT must be a dud but still baffled why it doesn't work with that many volts showing .

BB - where did you get yours from ?

had lots of problems with the battery on my vtr so i bought simple but cheap trickle charger of ebay for £13 so understand the worry when you get up in the morning :thumbup

Did you check the battery was wet? (had acid in it), bike batteries are shipped dry?

Them were the days matey , not many shipped dry now , this is a sealed unit .
Turns out it was from a faulty batch , they shipped replacement next day without any hassles . Didn't even want the other sending back , not that it was any good anyway .
So all sorted now
