Hi People, basically I've got my heart set on buying an RSV in novemeber. Bloody gorgeous bikes and I've wanted one for ages. Not looking at a factory or an R version just a standard Mille due to insurance premiums.

Firstly is there any difference between the years? Looking at 99-03' bikes with a budget in the region of £3000 just want to know if theres a certain model/year that has improvements or whatever. Is there anything I need to look out for when buying one? I know the standard can mullers the swingarm in a spill but anything else apart from that?

Do they have any common problems or issues? I ride everyday to work and back which is only a 3 mile journey so not exactly a galactic distance just wondering how the bike will cope with use everyday, all the roads are nice and flowing not stuck in traffic or anything. Never ridden a Vtwin before but heard they can be difficult to ride at low speeds.

Also is there like kind of website which shows the different models and paintjobs etc that would be great.

Just a pain having to wait until november to buy one :(.

Cheers for any help guys! Pongle

Hi Pongle & welcome aboard.

Wow 3k is gonna get you a whole heap of bike !!, but you've opened a whole can of worms !!.

Basically the 98-2001 are 1st gen bikes with slightly less power but some would argue greater character, 2001 -2003 have more power and revised cosmetics.

All models are bloody great and are a hoot to ride, I would suggest that you buy on condition and what rocks your boat cosmetically.

You sure you cant push for a RSV-R , I bought a 02 RSV not so long back but wish I had not been so impatient and got myself a 'R. There a whole lot of goodies on the 'R for very little difference in price.

I had a 99 RSV which I sold to buy my RSVR 01 one. to be honest I didnt notice any difference in insurance prices for the upgrade which I found great news.

An R is well worth getting if you find a good one. Carbon bits, Ohlin shock and folks. Might I even suggest a nice Yellow 01 version:devious:devious

For me the 01 is the style I love, not keen on the flat 02-03 back end and the 99 is lacking something but its going to be down to you mate.

RSV or RSVR 99 or 03, you will love it (and hate it:devious)

Good luck fella

some one on here was selling a clean rsvr for £2700 last week..theres bargains to be had...it was kiddj or something?

The reason I don't want an R or factory version is the insurance premium changes durastically. A normal Mille is in the £500-600 region for an R I'd have to add an extra £1000 :O. I prefer the looks of the 01+ models, but they're all so nice lol.

Ouch that insurance jump is not nice at all, from what I gather the 00 and 01 models are only cosmetic differences the rear seat, side panels etc. Look at some pics of bikes on here and decide your flavour :)

dont buy an early bulbous lardy *** bike. get an 04 onwards model much slimmer and more handsome bike. LOL. :eatcorn
