Nail down your bike license

A

A303

There's been a lot of **** in the press recently about how DVLA have been 'losing' (deleting) people's bike entitlement from their licence when it goes in for renewal or replacement and then refusing to acknowledge that they ever had a bike licence in the first place ...
See Here

and here

and don't forget that, even if you don't move house or get any points, you still have to renew your photocard licence every 10 years now (check that expiry date!).

Worried about a DVLA ****-up depriving me of my precious bike licence, I sent them the following with a cheque for £5 made out to DVLA (feel free to use it as a template if you like):

(My Name and address)
To:
DCS (Data Subject Enquiries),
D4,
DVLA,
Swansea SA6 7JL

Personal Information Request

To whom it may concern.

I am writing to request disclosure of all information that the DVLA holds on me, particularly driving licence category entitlements. I am making this request under the Data Protection Act. I am making the request because I need to ensure that DVLA is not holding inaccurate information about me.
My details are as below:
Name
DOB
Driver Number:

Thanks you for your help.

And a week or so later, this came back:

Hope you find this useful:thumbup

Nice one Simon :thumbup

I heard about this problem on the news or watchdog, or erm another tv programme a while ago. I didn't know you could pay to get these details tho', thats a good idea for peace of mind if it ever happens, I'm going to do that too :thumbup

Looks as if they have lost all the fixed penalty points though, you might wanna ring them up to ask where they have gone.

I was a victim, I raced for a while then had road bikes for 17yrs, then I moved house and had points removed and my licence came bank with no bike entitlement, they didn't want to know and i ended up taking my test again about four years ago.

You should have seen the look on the guys face when I turned up to do the CBT, he was one of the guys I used to race against - he pissed himself watching me sit on a CG125 going round the cones.

It is a great idea to get the info, it cost me a fortune and my no claims bonus was not valid because official records only show I have had a full Licence for three years.

Thanks for putting this up mate, everyone should do it.

Steve

Well worth keeping Dave although I heard a story where they refused to accept a photocopy. Apparently you can also apply on line and 'promise' to return your old licence cut into pieces, which could be a way to go.

I did this because I lost the paper part and may or may not be the holder of two current drivers licences :devious

When i need to renew mine i will say i cant find it....lost, if it comes back wrong, woo hoo i found my old one, in your face DVLA :nana

sounds like another money spinner to me:jack
should you realy need to pay to prove yourself

I have a the original pass paper (no marks against it :) ) and photo copies of my licences etc. Gonna send off for the info as well just to make sure.

My only concern is if you get the info back and it doesnt have bike on it. what then?

Why are dvla being so poor on bike licences? surely its not legal!
I guess its one way of keeping fewer bikes on the road and raising the dvla costs up :) cheeky gits

Happened to me years ago,it wasn't till I got a 'producer' that it came to light,it has also happened to a mate of mine who had to retake his test and start over again.

Fortunately I was lucky due to having paid the test fees on my Fathers business account and we found the cheque stubs enabling dates to be checked. I believe this approach is now deemed imposible due to 'procedures' :jack:jack

I did have a photocopy of my pass cert but this has now faded away.

Be a good idea to get another one methinks

Useless tossers at the DVLA , we shouldn't have to be doing this sort of thing, just another example of sheer bloody incompetence in official places.

We need some sort of public uprising against the treatment we get from those in charge of this country, but of course ' we're BRITISH' just bloody bend over accept a screwing by the system.

Vive La France, at least they have the balls to protest about things rather than just accept what ever comes there way.

Err, well unless it's a German Panzer division or two of course :devious:devious:devious then they wait for us and the Yanks to sort them out .

Ahhhh. I feel better for that. Now MP's expenses next, where's that bloody guilletine :thumbup
