Ok so I'm a little bored so I thought I'd let you all know about recent events.

So I return from a round the world trip in December having sold my TL1000R to part finance my journey. Priority number one on return is to get another bike. I had heard good thing s about these aprilia things so decided to go for a 2001 RSV which came my way in January. From January onwards I slowly but surely lavished a lot of time and money on the bike adding thing and setting it up to my liking. Outlay included a leo vinci titanium can, pirelli diablo corsa's, crash bobbins and other bits n bobs which I cant recall at the momonet. I also encountered quite a few problems which some of you on here can probably remember me twisting on about! The starting problems came down to a knackered sprag clutch which set me back 300 quid. At this point I now had quite a bit invested in this bike and my thoughts were to keep it for some time. I loved everything about it, the noise, the handling ect......

But my head was turned by the offer of a KTM superduke with light front damage that wasn't recorded, it did need new forks though. I sourced the forks unbelievably from breakers yard that day, with them on standby I went to look at the duke with cash in my pocket. The duke turned out to have a lot more damage than I was told. Scuffed frame and dented tank. Financially now it wasn't worth it so I walked away.

Unfortunately to raise said cash I had sold my mille to spydz from this very forum. Hope your still enjoying it! I read that you fitted the spare chip I had, pleased it had a positive effect.

So picture my face when I now have no bike and the sun is cracking the pavement (yes that occasionally happens n newcastle!)

With ebay and autotrader on my side I set about looking for another RSV. There are a lot of them out there but I couldn't find a one at a reasonable price. I also didn't fancy starting again with the 'extras' that I had just bought and sold again a few months previous. So I am now the owner of a very clean SP1. I know ts not a mille but hopefully I will have a mille track bike later in the year so I intent to stay in touch with this forum. Finances wont allow two bikes at the moment.

First impressions of the SP1 is its very small and the low down fueling it a bit snatchy. I think a dyno run is on the cards, it already has a power commander fitted but I think it could do with a bit of setup time.

So is the SP1 better than the mille? No. Is the Mille better than the SP1? No. But they are very different bikes both of which I love.

I have added some pictures but not sure how they will come out. Oh and the count me in to the 'northern rideouts' provided you dont mind a rice rocket tagging along!

Always liked the SP mate, it was a toss up between a yellow SP or the mille, i bought the mille in the end, it came up first at the best price, enjoy it mate i reckon they are nice :thumbup

i too have always had a soft spot for the sp1,mostly cos ive always loved the sound of a twin, theyre just a bit to small for me and there isnt really a pillion seat bigger than a stamp for the mrs.
they look and sound awesome tho.
very nice bike you got there mate.

Love sp1 - 2 would buy one if the prices were not so high. Cant really go wrong with Honda, Saw colin edwards do the double at brands a few years ago and it sounded awsome.

honad,s a cool bike, looks n handles ace, it was a tossup for me sp or rsv, rsv only won coz slightly more modern and 0% interest:thumbup

i saw two SP's this weekend, made me remember how much i loved those bikes. Honda really needs to update them though. :banghead

Thanks for the comments. Can't really argue with anything said. Pillion comfort is crap, I'm gonna have to get new low link pipes made as currently the pegs dont fit and the seat is tiny. Tank range isn't great either, I had to fill it up after 90 miles! I actually looked at an edwards rep but the paint job in the flesh is a bit 'shell suit' and not really for me.

Did about 150miles on it yesterday and its not as sure footed as the mille and gave me a couple of mild tank slappers, something the mille never did no mater how hard you were going, caught me by suprise. On the plus side it feels more poweful and turns in extremely quick.

looking forward to putting a few more miles on it...............

they are a stunning looking iconic bike mate, and the red and black is the best colour,it was awesome in the 2000 isle of man tt in the hands of joey dunlop too.i really wanted one but just impractical for me unfortunately,as said due to its physical size and poor tank range.
a bloke had one on our estate and it used to rattle the letterbox as it went past it was like thunder goin past.awesome bike.
my mate had the american mariwaki(sp?) race cans on and they sound the dogs balls mate!! also sato cans are v good for them and do low mounted ones.

sweet looking bike mate,

Im in a similar situation myself paul, im off to travel the world also, was supposed to be leaving in October but due to the crash i had to put it back to end of January due to cash etc but im hoping to god i dont have to sell the mille hence having a day job and night job its killing me but all will be worth it,

As for the SP mate seen one yesterday at a local cafe looks sweet and agree with everyone sounds freaking amazing

Where abouts did ya travel to if ya dont mind me going abit off topic

I considered an SP1 before buying my RSV, but I was a bit undecided at the time for the same reason that BIG UN mentioned - namely the pillion seat, missus just glared at me when I pointed at one in the local dealers and said "That's nice, innit?". :biggrin

Mate has one, well actually his is an SP2. Had a go on it and liked it a lot.

Posted these ages ago on the Bikers Oracle - pics of his SP2 whilst three of us were out for a blat a while ago:-

I started in Bangkok then travelled south through Thailand from there I went to Singapore and into Malaysia (Bali is awesome). I then went ot Australia for a while before moving onto Fiji. After Fiji I went ot America and travelled from LA to New York then home.

I guarentee you wont regret doing it, even if you sell your bike you can allways buy another one when or if you come back! If you want any advice on places to go just ask.

Fair play buddy I’m doing a similar route but in the opposite way round, were heading off to LA then traveling across mainland to San Francisco probs hire a car depending on the cost, going to check out vegas and the grand canyon while were in LA its got to be done, oh and getting a tattoo to celebrate the trip, taking 10 days to travel across and having many stops on the way going to hit some uni`s on the way haaa!! Spread the English wealth amongst the American birds,
We then fly out from San Francisco arriving in Hawaii for a further 14 days, were going to try and check out all the islands and see where Lost was filmed, Then hoping back on the plane to arrive in Fiji for yet another 14 days ohh it’s a hard life haaa!! Back on the plane again to arrive in New Zealand for a month obviously do all the extreme activities, cant wait to do a parachute jump scared to death of heights so im hoping this will help me overcome that problem, then fly to Oz for 8 months going to get a job and live like a local for abit then head north, and finally off to Thailand to see where Cast Away was filmed and grab all the presents for the relatives as it is cheap as fook .

But yeah if needed I will sell the bike to fund the trip as ya say can always get another but ive formed a bond to the beast so id prefer not to let it go

Are ya settled down now mate or are ya still thinking about going back out? What sort of work did ya do while you were out there
