My RSV'R struggles past 140 real bad + it cuts off for split second

Ok guys, i bought my 2002 RSV'R last saturday and love it. I have removed the restrictor in the air box and snipped the wire as it is already fitted with a race can. This gave me a little more mid range and better pick up and all felt good. I took the bike to 130mph and was suprised at how much the acceleration seemed to slow down at the higher speeds, and so i used a straight hill that i knew my 1999 R6 would do 147mph two up. I got to around 142mph eventually and the bike lunged forward as if i had pulled the clutch or cut the ignition......................................Im sure this is not right as there seems to be no power after long periods of full throttle as if the bike is starved of air or feul or something....Please help.....I still have warranty.:dunno

RSV speedo's are very accurate, the R6 could be reading 10% over at that speed.

Standard gearing is 17/42 so you're down a tooth on the front. What revs is it showing?

I came from a 99' R1, while the Ape pulls like a train lower down and is quick to 130-140, the pull to 150 is slow compared to a modern jap 4 like the R1 or even your high revving R6. But top speed is only one thing, I can ride a section of twisty much faster and more confidently on the RSVR than I could on the R1, handling and torque IMHO are more important than top speed :)

I have same problem mate , i run same gearing and have a 2001 rsv.I think some are just slow and others aint .

Mate got 2000 model and his can only go 136, while father in law skips by us with a twatish smurk on his face aboard his ugly tl1000r.:jack

Maybe a good tune up and rossi chip may help us

At least if you get stopped at that speed you wont go to jail! Any faster you might:devious

Ok well first of all i have no idea what the gearing is but judging by the sissy strips and the fact that the guy before had the can and no other de-restriction mods, i think it would be safe to say its running standard. I understand that it is a low to mid range bike but to struggle past 130mph is a joke considering the power and torque of these things. My main worry is the sudden engine cut at above 130 with the throttle pinned open....this gives me reson to believe that there is something more to this than normal.

I have plans on tunning the bike further by buying a piper cross filter, a PC3 USB and getting it all dyno'd and tunned by someone who knows what they are doing. This may happen earlier than expected as a dyno may reveal the problem.

Anyone know a good tuner around worcestershire area.

RPM mate !

need to know what RPM your pullin at that speed!

Standard gearing is fookin shockin! well over geared !!

cheers
Griff
