whats the diff between a YTZ14S and YTX14S battery (apart from about 20 quid...?) and which ACTUAL make and model is the best upgrade? :dunno

Festive greetings chaps...........i tried to start my RSV on Tuesday, wish i didn't and should have read all the threads before having a go.........thinking that it would strike up on the first prod was unrealistic after the -16C we had 3 weeks ago and the lack of heating in the garage.................so after a couple of turns all died....charged the battery fully overnight and tried this morning..................ummmmmmmmmmmm would not start, strong smell of fuel (flooded) a couple of pops from zorst.............and then smoke from teh insulation on teh solenoid..........BLX.

Let it stand for a short while and now the solenod just clicking with a press of the button..........new solenoid ordered higher rating than the plastic one fitted from the factory and hopefully here by the weekend.....................

Now thinking i should have bought the Varta battery instaed of the Chinese jobby................(tight northern type bloke)

Oh well chin up.............soon be Christmas...............!

check the amp rateing on the battery some are low and some are higher even though they have a simular part number you need one with at least 180amps there are diff ratings en sae cca, mine is 190 en which converts to about 230 cca new solenoid from griff and it has stood outside under a cover all winter not used since the snow and it fires up fine

I fired mine up today for the first time in 3 months. It fired up first time. I have had the charger on the battery for them 3 months though

i have no issues with mine. but then i am using my super secret imported American (yes you read that right) battery.....

I went to start mine on New Years Eve and guess what.............It started first prod! Took it out for a (very) quick run as I hadnt been out on it for 3 weeks due to the snow and Ice. Roads are very greasy so I didnt like to stay out too long. I can say that I rode on the first and last day of 2010 though. Spent an hour today cleaning the chain, fooking road salt! Nice and peachy now though.
