My crazy project. Rsvr Mille 2001

Hi
I’m new to the group. And to Aprilia. On a whim I recently bought an rsv Mille with the romantic notion of taking a rough bike (that I dreamed of owning back when they where new) and giving it some tlc to make it a greedy bike again.
What I bought. 2001 rsvr Mille. Front end has no lights and a race front end (on daytime MOT). Rear end has been converted to rsv4 (had brake lights)
The whole bike is tatty cosmetically. And this is where I aim to spend some serious time. Possibly even look at an rsv4 front fairing.
Having removed the side fairings and had a closer look I can see it’s going to need some mechanical efforts and I am weak in this area so would appreciate some help and advice. I fully sun to see this project through!!!

firstly. It looks like the expansion tank is empty. Whilst the filler cap has fluidalmost up to the cap. Is this normal?! I’m gonna drain the system so would appreciate any tips relevant to this bike.
Secondly. I’ve just noticed a hose off which seems to have a metal bung closing it off that looks as thought it should be connected to the clutch area. (Can’t attach pic as it says it’s too large)
Any advice and suggestions would be happily received and I will be posting developments if anyone is interested.

Hi

As for rad and expansion tank, once you go to drain it have a good look for any leaks. The hose clips if original tend to weep with age and jubilee clips offer better security. Other than that check the rad for any pin holes too.

As for the pipe either someone could of removed the one way valve and fitted a proper slipper clutch to it by chance? The OEM one uses a vacuum pipe but an stm or sigma requires the pipe to be blanked off.

Do you know the history? It does sound like a track bike so may have some hidden secrets under the fairings and tank perhaps

Hey. Thanks for your response. That does make sense as previous owner did use it as a track day bike. Hense no headlights.
The clutch thing also puts my mind at rest. I will alsotake your advice on thebest forum.Really appreciate your comments. Thanks again.
