ANYONE KNOW Y I SHOULD HAVE A SLIGHT RATTLE ON START UP AND AN OIL CAN SHOWING ON DASH WHEN THE BIKE WAS LAST SWITCHED OFF HOT, IT LASTS FOR 2 TO 5 SECONDS DEPENDING ON HOW HOT AND HOW OLD THE OIL IS ie 1 TO 300 MILES I`VE HAD THE OIL PUMP RESEALED, THIS IS A 11000 MILE ENGINE WITH AT LEAST 5 OIL CHANGES FROM NEW. IT SOUNDS LIKE DEATH OF ENGINE IS SOON BUT ITS SWEET AS A NUT AND I`VE JUST DONE A INTERS TRACK-DAY AT SNOTTERTON AL-BE IT WITH EXTRA PANTS TO SOAK UP MESS IF IT WENT TWIN SHAPED. ANY HELP PLEASE AS I LUV THE BIKE AND COULD NOT JUST OUT IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. :banghead

Hello? Always polite to introduce yourself first.

Oh, and turn the CAPS LOCK off shouty boy.

The 'oil can' symbol on the dash means the oil pressure is low. What grade oil are you using?

10 wat not 40 apparently they will run on 0 wot not 5, no prob, i gotta turn in going to brands in morn. thanks for your interest.

Stupid question D whits up, but how der yer check yer oil level.

Smin, I ken whit yer saying, but I feel your reply was a little rude and snotty. We've had problems with folk leaving the forum lately and comments like that might get folks backs up. The guy may have said something in 2008 when he joined.

Recommended oil is 15w/50.
10w/40 is fine for the road, doing 'normal' speeds, but for thraipsin' round Snet, yer need the thicker stuff.

Oh,what was the problem with the oil pump?

I like Dave Watts

Wonder what his name is?

I am one to worry at warning lights ... they were invented for a reason and even those on a Ts random display should be taken seriously.

The rattle may or may not be connected with the warning but it does sound like a pressure problem so I'd get it into a decent mechanic sooner rather than later

PS

StiX is lovely really ... but he may not have had enough tinto when he replied!

Rude? Hmm not really.

Snotty? Definitely not. I'm welsh ffs :thumbup

ye beat me tae it KB min...ah wiz hummin it in mah heid when a read the posts.

Dave...ahv heard o similar random oil warnins occuring wi Ts where the oil filter has been converted tae the longer filter element version as used on the later Tuonos. Seems ye can get a lag tae the oil pressure sensor which can gie random indications. Theres mair on this some where in here.

Ahl hae a dig...

richt. I canna sit here and nae saying something. It wis a Kinks (Ray Davies) song COVERED (aye Stix that wis a shout) by The Jam, and sung by Foxy.

Hello zoners thanks for all feed-back, ive had 15-50 fully syth oil in it when the problem occured but southern cross m/c kilburn resealed the oil pump in case it was leaking cos it sounds and feels in me head that the oil pump was un priming itself after turning off. It now has 10-40 semi in it and problem still occures after switching off a very hot engine then starting again. The long filter thing is interesting as it has been fitted on its 2nd service at only 2000 miles and i still don,t know why why they changed em. Other than this the bike has been awesome an trouble free. Ps sorry im shouting again!

PM Batfastard mucker am sure he posted up somethin aboot the long & short oil filters. A think the shorter one has a non return valve fitted. :dunno
