MPL fitting pics

Got myself an MPL clutch slave directly from Germany, putting RSVZONE in the subject header! Thanks!:thumbup

Firstly - I know there are loads of people on the forum that have already fitted a new clutch slave cylinder, so this isnt intended to teach anyone to suck eggs!! Just thought I'd take some pics while fitting mine incase it might be useful for anyone else thinking of fitting one. I also read most of the previous threads on MPL slaves first, which was also a help.

So, firstly just loosened the oil line (and did back up hand tight) with the cylinder still attached to make it easier to remove later. Then removed the 3 hex bolts mounting the cylinder.

Then remove the cylinder, separate the plate (bottom arrow) and cleaned this and the push rod - I had quite a bit of gathered chain wax etc...

The MPL slave comes with 3 new mounting bolts and 2 copper washers

Mount the MPL cylinder in place, remove the plastic plug, and fill with DOT fluid - it didnt seem to actually take much to fill this up though.

Remove the old cylinder from the oil line, attach to the new cylinder and use the two new copper washers. Attach some tubing and reverse fill the oil line and reservoir.

I think I pulled a few reservoirs through, and the lever felt too light, so thought something must have been wrong as there was almost no resistance. Then bled the clutch lever as well which seemed to contain a bit of a bubble, and felt much more realistic. Re-bled down at the cylinder again just to check and then put everything back together.

Managed to have a quick run, and it feels great, lovely and smooth action, and much lighter. With this and the modified oil jet, everything feels good, and can find neutral.:doug

Right, off for a drink. Have a good new years everyone!

awesome are'nt they ,you should get this into the file vault matey ....its really good info and crackin foto's too well in

Excellent write up samgoon. Bloody shame i didnt know about MPL slaves before as my bike had its slave replaced only 3 weeks after buying it under a warranty repair (used bike) had to wait over 2 weeks to get the genuine one! Could have got the dealer to buy and fit an MPL, woulda been cheaper for them and woulda had bike back within a week plus a better slave! Darn it :angry

what sort of money was it as my clutch is quite heavy
dont think having short levers help:biggrin

I paid £90 including delivery - thanks to Tim for agreeing a price with them - see post below.

Didnt seem much more expensive than I've seen some go for on Ebay, and didnt feel like waiting around for one! I have definately found it lighter, but havent really given it a good go yet.

Thanks for a good write up:thumbup £90 sounds like a bargain to me if it stops me getting cramp when stop starting in traffic

I managed to get mine from MPL via ebay for £70 delivered. Depends how much of a rush you're in as it's possible to get them cheaper :dunno

Do you need to do both the jet and slave change to get a lighter clutch, or is the slave on its own enough? Would you say the clutch feels like an ordinary japanese bike after you changed the slave cylinder? The mega arm pump workout while waiting to get into places or sitting at the lights does get a little boring after awhile.

I did the oil jet a few weeks ago, and that seemed to help selecting neutral which is great at the lights! The slave change has made it feel lighter in my opinion - not sure about a comparison though as I havent had chance to try it immediately after another bike. I think the MPL website says something about it reducing resistance by approx 20/30% ?

it feels lighter definitely dude. don't think i would go as far to say it's as light as a jap bike's clutch but a noticable difference. you really notice it when you're on the move changing up and down rather than stationary. def get one.

Cheers guys, I think this will be my next project. How do you find them on ebay?

Way cool I went through Lübeck on my way to Hamburg once. This clutch cylinder was so meant to be.
