The 2009 MotoGP race schedule has been announced. While there’s no huge surprises, there are a few welcome changes. The Chinese Grand Prix is being dropped in favor of Hungary and the so-new-they-haven’t-built-it-yet Balaton-ring (seen above). The $126 million circuit looks to be a spectators dream, with grandstands forming a bowl around the track for unprecedented visibility. The swap could have been triggered by concerns over human rights violations in Tibet (Hello, International Olympic Committee?). More exciting is that the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca is being moved to the July 4th weekend.

Describing next year’s US Grand Prix, Laguna Seca’s CEO said, “We are planning special fan activities to celebrate and you can bet the American riders will have special leathers, helmets and bike graphics commemorating Independence Day.” Oh lord.
