MOT indicator question?

Hi There

M.O.T's I have fitted led indicators to my bike, but the dash bulb when connected made it work in a strange way putting three on etc at the same time because it was not an led.

I have fitted a sounder flasher unit with an annoying beep instead.

Q: will this pass an MOT if I put a bit of tape over the lens for the dash indicator warning light?

Thanks for any input

Would have thought so.. I'd speak to who ever is going to test it. As far as I know as long as you have a light to indicate they are on its ok. But I also know that mot law change all the time..

There is no light to indicate they are on just the sounder when on coming from the flasher unit

The relay sorts out the quick flashing, but the diodes sort out the dash light as far as i understand it...

I have led indicators on mine, I have a wideband relay installed and load resistors on the rears no need for pulling the clocks apart to do diode mods that way.

Well that sure sounds easier kiwi

I am no spark but as i understand it the diodes are essentially act like a non return valve and stop the excess (as leds takre less power) power going through the dash light circuit and back to the indicator on the opposite side and so you end up with 3 or 4 lights on instead of just 2. I could be wrong or perhaps not explaining it the best.

Do you have any details of the relay and resistors you used please?

I may have to take the nose fairing of anyway like becuase i have bought leds with integral lights so will have to connect them into the main light circuit too.

Does anyone know if the sounding buzzer relay will pass an MOT, it is an electronic flasher that I have but haven't done the mod yet. I also have an electronic flasher without the buzzer if I can see how the diodes are soldered

you have to have an ***** light unless you can clearly see the front indicators flashing from the riding position.

Just wondering how you got on with the mods..

I too had the same problems with LED's, i added all LED's and bought an LED relay, this worked fine for flashing, but the non LED lamp in the clocks caused all four LED's to flash with a signal.

For you and others..
The simple diode mod worked a charm, no resistors to heat up and waste battery charge etc.

The mod is just two cheap diodes at around 50p each, clocks do not need to be touched.. just a few wires going into the clocks connector above the main head lamp.
If you need any help, let me know.

As for the MOT pass, do a search on the D.O.T mot .gov web site (sorry no link) it will tell you the requirements for a pass, I looked up the integral indicators as I'm fitting them to the rear of my mille having read they won't pass them any more, I found that they are still legal.
