ok, as its raining i thought i'd pull some of the panels off my latest ebay aquisition.

got a couple of questions for someone to help me with, nothing serious.
it's a 2000 model and has been de-restricted in the air box, and has a wire sniped and heat shrinked at the ecu
picture.php

but, should this baffle be removed out the exhaust? the bloke mentioned it had a real loud can on when he bought it so he put the std can back on.

i have got the bike on a paddock stand(back wheel about 1" off the ground) should there be oil in the tube or is there a set procedure for checking the levels?
picture.php

there is a few dodgy bits on the wiring, lots of cellotape covering connectors and ****(think one of the owners must of been in charge of the stationary cupboard!!) but on the whole i'm real happy with it

Ditch the can ASAP chap. Its Ugly and weighs a ton. Some bloke on the cut might need it for a barge anchor! Failing that then the baffel needs to be knocked out with a birmingham screwdriver.

The Aprilias run a dry sump oil system which means there is a different method to check to oil level. You need to get the engine up to temp - ride it for 20 mins - then check the oil level on level ground with the bike up right just after you have switched the engine off. The level should be between the high an low marks but preferably 3/4 between the two. Any higher and you run the risk of excess oil blowing into the air box. Not a problem but its messy.

Im a Wolvo ex pat, which part do you come from?

the can will have to stay for a while till funds allow something tasty, so i'll carfeully remove the baffle(lol)

just found what i think was the side stand switch wire, tucked up under the engine with a chocolate block shorting out the brown and black wire.
traced it back up to the frame rail connector and soldered it and heat shrinked it out the way.

cheers
Kev

Welcome mate. While you've got it apart, check that brown connector that you can see in the pics on the rear subframe coming from the reg-rec. Some people have cut is out and rewired it because it can be a source of problems.

A Cold chisel on the spot welds will see the restrictor in the can come out with ease.

Get rid of it asap though. 120 quid will get you a can cheaper for a second hand one.

Dont forget to put the battery on charge when you dont use it with an OPTIMATE system.

And dont apply full throttle on starting it, use the cold start lever only.

well
spot welds came of with a quick tap and a chisel.
but as for the baffle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:angry
if you look back at the picture of it, i used a length of all thread with a 10mm nut on the end, knocked it thru the middle then wedged it in one of the wings. used a packer at the top and tried to wind it out.
all it did was pull the nut through each of the 4 wings in turn.
:rant
so, out with a long chisel and started to colapse it in on itself.
got a length ob box section and cut a slot in the end and used it a T-bar to try and twist the baffle free.
just managed to twist the box section
so i'm in having a cuppa ready for round 4 with the air hacksaw to see if i can chop it up and pul pieces out
:dunno

what a fookin beast, totally different to what i was expecting.
my old '94 blade feels like it has a load more grunt, but it is tweaked a fair bit.
they both feel about the same weight moving them around the garage.
quite suprised how much you have to rev it, where as the blade would pull in any gear without any fuss at all. but it's no chore going up and down the box with the soundtrack it now plays.

not complaining at all, just totally different

just love the noise

yep... 5th & 6th gear is pretty redundant unless doing 70mph+ !! :biggrin

gearing helps... mine was stock 17-42... i think... now 16-42... better but im now leaning towards 16-44 !! :thumbup

apparentley... 15-44 is quite... ermmm... entertaining !! :biggrin
