Got a 2000 Mille r and have seen the later small side panels fitted to the early models, the ones under the tank and front seat, are these a straight on fitment or is there a hole to be drilled? Also does anybody have any pictures of one with those later panels on??

They will fit but they need a little bit of a doctoring to get them to sit right. You could faff about drilling holes here there and everywhere but there is a simpler way to do it.

I cut off the long protruding part where the front bolt goes through so that it would sit flush with the frame. Then threaded a long cable tie through behind the mesh and the rivets holding the mesh on at the back of the panel, around the frame and then trimmed it. Fits nice and snug!!.

To finish off if you felt the need ( I didn't bother ) you could glue a flat piece of black plastic to the rear of the panel behind where the front bolt would normally go and then cut the head off a bolt and glue it in place onto the bit of plastic.

Couple of pics from years back when I first fitted them :-

Thanks I was searching for you as I'd seen some pics of your bike before, thanks for your info and advice,so you don't use any bolts at all??? Just your cable ties

Hi,

No bolts required. The part of the panel that sits at the rear under the seat has a sort of "clip" type deal on it which secures it to the subframe spar. The front just needs a little cable tie to keep it in place, fitted discretely behind the mesh. Works a treat, solid as a rock and no risk of them parting company with the bike.

 Like this ,but also like th MK1 pannels, what should I do now.

Your call m8, I'm the same, I like both types of panels but the later ones with the mesh look better to me. Won't be everyones cup of tea but each to their own.

When I bought the bike (a few years ago) I thoought it looked a bit dated without the mesh panels, so bought 3 sets and couldent work out how they fitted. Now am a bit wiser thru the fourms and as every one knows that the MK1s are the best Iam reluctant to change. But still think yhe mesh looks a bit more .
