Verdict is what are you on about?

How can you call the factory bland and boring? Answer that first and it might give us an a clue where you are coming from?

Only ridden my aprilia but think by all accounts the R has a more aggressive power delivery to the Factory, was speaking to one of the lads at Southern and he said the factory is a lot smoother something to do with the engine posistion sensor reading twice as many times as the R. Of course its also old school versus new on styling aswell, am sure someone on here has ridden both and can give you a personal opinion, am old school but would a go on new.

what i was talking about is the power delivery of the factory r... its said to be abit of a let down... also i didnt call the factory "bland and boring" ther was a different few words they discribed it as and my choice seems alil less harsh...

Fella, there is absolutley nothing wrong with the power delivery of any of the Rotax engined V60 twins. Journo's have to write something, don't believe all you read in these magazines.

Never a truer word writ there Legs...they gotta write something as they getting paid to do it regardless of the truth.

not rode a newer one so cant comment, love them both, the new one still looks cutting edge to me,i dont think the shape will look outdated for quite a while yet,and i guess i do prefer the looks of the newer bike, but i just know itll be to small for me,if i could get room and riding position of the old bike with the looks of the new bike,id be very happy.
still luv the looks of mine, they can be a bit marmite,i remember not being to keen when it 1st came out, compared to the il4 sharp lines ect.
both excellent bikes imo and if im honest,i couldnt really do justice to MUCH more than they can offer on todays roads.
sometimes bikes get smoothed out a little when a new look model comes out, they seem slower or less aggresive but end up with a bit more power and usualy a sec or 2 quicker around some track lol.
id have sworn my 2002 r1 was pants compared to the 98 r1 i had previous, but it was more powerful, faster, lighter and better as an all round package, just sempt less agressive due to switching from carbs to very smooth injection.

Had a test ride today on the brand new CBR1000 Honda, the one Journo's are raving about..Now that was bland and boring, got back on my RSV and it felt great..Ridden quite a few of the new Jap models now, and it makes me realise why I'd got bored with them..

really?
i quite fancied that new blade in white and black too!
if i had the money and had to pick a brand new bike, that was top of my list,in them colours, white or black gsxr1000 2nd.

Not the Blade the CBR1000 with the single sided swinging arm, has the 07 Blade engine in it, though have had a go also on the 'New Blade' they're quite peaky, not waking up till over 6k showing..

They're all very fast bikes, I've just got where I prefer the V Twin power..

What you're really needing to know is the difference between the 00 - 03 Mille and 03.9 onwards RSV..... I've ridden both and the older model is more 'substantial' and has more midrange making it feel 'faster', whilst the newer model is more 'revvy' with apparently less midrange and a 'slimmer' figure, whilst it hides the speed you're travelling at VERY well. Bottom line is they're both bloody quick and enjoyable to ride, with similar handling and engine characteristics. When you move onto the 'R' version and Factory you get same engine but with additional goodies such as Oz wheels and Ohlins suspension, so effectively you will have a more 'race-bred' bike....Depends upon what floats your boat looks wise, how big your wallet is and whether you want a V-Twin that is fun to ride and relatively cheap to run or an in-line four that is nice and shiny!

Is that the CB1000R? The Naked thing with single sided swing arm and alien looking headlight?

I thought the Blade was still called the CBR1000R?

Missus just bought a 2008 CBR600RR and although it looks awsome, handles really well and even though said to have the best mid range power of the 600's it feels slow compared to the RSVR! :thumbup Light as a feather though!

On a bit of a slight tangent ( just following suite here I guess :nana ) but is there a noticeable difference between the standard Mille and the R (01 -03 year range ). Obviously the Ohlins, Oz wheels etc are an improvement but was curious just how much?

I'm sure I will be just fine with a standard Mille and I think paying the extra for an R will be beyone my budget for now unless I find a genuine bargain lurking somewhere.

Well some might disagree, but i could'nt tell the difference between the mille and the mille r...well not on the road anyway.sure its nice to have the ohlins and oz but do they realy make that much difference to your average road rider :dunno i dont think so.the only difference is a couple of kilos ,no difference in bhp.

its the added "bling" factor, you must admit the gold ohlins and oz wheels look the mutts :drool

It's all personal preference, but I think the new factory colours are pants, far prefer my 05 model colours..The new standard RSV in white I think looks stunning far better than the garish factory with gold frame and red/white colour scheme... But as I said personal preference

Thats the one, I don't keep up with all the model designations..Took my lad on the back as he's planted on there with roots, and it felt tiny, far too small for me with a pillion...
Very smooth motor, typical Honda as in very polished just BORING..They've detuned it to 123bhp from the Blades 150 bhp to improve mid range..

Got back on my RSV immediately after and felt right at home, far prefered the Aprilia.
In contrast, my mate also had a test ride (04 Fazer 1000) and he said it made his feel old and heavy.

i prefer to "feel" that you have a bike underneath you.
loved the zx7 for that, solid, heavy and planted.
(saying that, ewts planted once im on it lol)
thats why the milles perfect imo, barring a few electric gremlis of course.lol

I agree with Ginga, ya gotta be a top rider to notice any difference between a mille and an R :thumbup

Ive ridden Badboys 04 Factory and i think it is a lovely bike yet i felt it lacked alot of the aggression of my 02, as Newboots said the newer models are more revy and the power delivery seems to be smoother, in my personnel opinion and for my style of riding ill be staying old skool and stick with mine :thumbup:thumbup

It's all about emissions.

you can't really compare the out of the box delivery of a post 2003 bike to a pre 03 because they are complying with completely different regs.(euro 3) Cats rob power as they lean out the mixture as much as is safe and add a restriction to gas flow.

the later bikes also have 57mm throttle bodies as apposed to 54 or 51 mm on earlier bikes which increases power higher up the range.
the gear ratios are also different.

The latest magnesium version of the Rotax chucks out considerably more than earlier bikes if you unleash it via losing the cats and changing ecu settings but it will always be higher up the rev range because that's the way it's designed.

neither are better just different. You takes your choice.
I would say the original bike is a better bike to ride than the newer bike unaltered in terms of power delivery and the stock suspension setup. Factories come setup way to soft for my liking but depends on the individual i guess. My R was pretty was solid from the box once sag was set.
The radial brakes are night and day better than the gold lines on the earlier bikes.
