Hi Everyone
Right, this is very painful to write. The bike I said I would never sell is going up for sale. I've not advertised it yet. I will on Saturday after I've got used to the idea! I was never going to sell this bike... I spent over £400 quid on it last week and this week it will have a new boot on the back, ready for the summer and in tip top order. It wants for nothing and nothing will need doing for a long time.
Why sell it before the summer? I've not got a lot of work on and the tour of Europe that I've been promising the missus is fast approaching. I'd hoped to get the van, keep it for the hols and then sell it after. With no mechanical probs that's a free holiday. In theory. Anyways, it's fast approaching and I just can't get the cash together for the van without selling my beautiful 2001, 2000 model Mille R. I PROMISE I will replace her the second i get the camper van in the Auto Trader on my return but for now someone else can take her on and enjoy the summer.
The bike... Those of you that know the bike will know it's very very clean... It was featured in Ride Magazine in March last year (I still have a few copies of the magazine in mint condition) and I think it's the best one around, in standard fettle, standard orginal gleaming black and red livery, low mileage and serviced fastidiously. It's always had the best of everything and until i owed it I don't think it had ever seen a drop of rain. It gets ridden now and I've used it since in the rain but the bike wants for nothing and is looked after with kid gloves and doesn't look any worse for it. It gets a full clean, chain clean and wax every week wihout fail.
It's on 16k now, fresh from a £450 service including gaskets and valve clearances less than 1.5k ago at Southern Cross, with reciepts.
I spent over £400 quid a few weeks after that on a twin subframe conversion so I can carry a pillion - All original Aprilia parts sourced second hand - all parts were mint. Whilst it was in the shop, I got a new renegade air kit fitted and performance filter which made a tremendous difference and is seemingly a pretty hard part to come by. I have all standard parts.
Last week it went into Southern Cross for new Gold X-Ring chain and steel sprockets, 16/43 and new clutch plates, The Aprilia racing Ti can had a repack and a new mot whilst it was there. Total, £420. The sprockets and chain didn't need doing I just wanted to change the gearing. The repack was not neccessary for the MOT, i just wanted it done. All it needed for the MOT was a replacement indicator and the rear brake needed bleeding. I noticed it had a sprint battery in it which are no good for Milles, so in typical form i had them chuck a brand new top quality battery in it to avoid any future starting issues.
Nothing has EVER gone wrong on this bike aside from the slipping clutch I've just had replaced. it is completely reliable and an absolute dream to ride.
It's the slightly lower gearing and the brand new clutch plates so it rides like new and goes like a scalded cat. I ride in town alot and this gearing is much more manageable (less lumpy than standard gearing) round town and mental when you give it some throttle.
Amazing Brembo brakes stop it on a sixpence with little wear on the disks and plenty of meat on the pads. The bearings have all been checked and are tip top. Ohlins suspension front and back. fork seals are perfect. If I was being really picky, I'd get the rear shock touched up as there is a little bit of corrosion on the front top of the yellow spring but it's hardly noticeable and doesn't detract from the operation of the suspension. Best handling bike Ive ever had.
I put a smaller plate on it recently (just one size smaller so as to avoid unwanted attention) to tidy up the rear end but I have the original and a spare tiny one, if you're less risk averse than me.
I have all the original bits to put back to standard, inlcuding the race sub frame and all the parts are mint including the original chip and can. It's running the Ti Aprilia can with correct Eprom chip. It's just been properly repacked and it sounds deep, wonderful and exactly as it should.
It's a lovely standard, classic mille. I get comments on it's condition EVERYWHERE it goes. I went to Beachy Head and Brighton on it on Sunday and I swear this is the best bike I've ever had. It's a really tough decision to sell it. The new owner will be over the moon and I'm 100% confident they will adore it. There are no surprises here it's an honest, classic, very very well looked after Mille R with everything done, ready to go for the summer.
The only thing it will need soon is a new rear tyre. I'll put a new tyre Pirelli Corsa 3 on it this week. I've been runnign them for a while now and they're great tyres. I'll do that before it goes so whoever picks it up knows there's nothing else to spend on it.
I want 3k for it, firm. no haggling it's good to go. It's better than anything I've seen at a dealer for 3.5k and it's had everything done to it, ready to go.
I fitted a Carbon fibre chain guard, replacing the ugly plastic one two weeks ago. the front and rear fender could do with buffing up as they're dulling but look fine after a wash with some wax on them. I think someone has used some silicone spray on them in the past, this stuff plays havoc with carbon but it DOES NOT detract from the overall condition of the bike, again, I'm just being picky. I have a shiny carbon rear hugger that you could have with it but i think the slightly more matt looks better so haven't fitted it.
Gutted. if anyone knows anyone that wants a stormer of a bike, let me know.
It's exactly as I've desicribed and you will not be dissapointed. I've had a look around the paintwork this morning. It's not new so there are a couple of tiny marks (two very minor stone chips) but I'm being very very picky. It's as clean as a whistle. the bike looks bloody lovely and I will be gutted to see it go.
It's still insured so I can tax it for you if needs be, that runs out at the end of this month. Mot was done on Wednesday, think that might be 13 months but I'll check, it's at least a FULL mot.
£3000.
