Anyone find they have to top there oil alot... or am i just clutching at straws and i have an engine problem?
Theres no white smoke when in use, and i have been doing alot of riding about 30 miles aday on average.
I did a complete oil change about 5 months ago, and i put about 1litre in every 2 months and it needs more again! its 10w - 50.

Any ideas if this is normal? :confused

These use oil & so do most Big V-Twins ... Just be sure that you are check the levels the correct way as you may well be over filling it if you are checking the bike with out run it up the road first as with the dry sump motors they can hold oil so it doesn't show on the level gauge on the oil tank ... Then you think its empty as the gauge isn't show anything & go & fill it up again , but once the bike is run the level goes way over fill & pumps it into the airbox ...

Thanks for the reply. Yea i will double check it when its run up to temp, but def goes through the old oil more than i would of thought. What type do you use I.E 10W - 40 or 10W-50? would this make much difference?

Get yourself a KTM and you`ll see some supping of oil , my old 950 SMR used to drink 1 litre per 1000 miles steady !!

Have had three mille`s & Tuonos now and they do like a wee drop but no where near the likes of the katoom .

Usually go about 2 x times 140 mile ish runs before i give a top up on the mille or Tuono

Keep yer eye on it but don`t worry about it and ride the **** of it......!!:thumbup

P.s Running 15 W 50 as well

Sweet that puts my mind at rest!

Mobil 1- 4T RACING 15-50W have used this in all my Triumph /Ducati's Yamaha / Suzuki / Kawazaki / etc ... & my Aprilia & my Customers Aprilias ... Very happy with the Oil test results when tested ... Its GoooooD !

Mine drinks about 1ltr every 4000 miles, not sure if that's good or bad. I use Agip 15W 50

Mine did from new, had to top up all the time and check I had enough before I went on longer journeys.

Had it serviced at 4000k and all of a sudden, stopped using oil, very strange but nice not to worry about it.

lol as been said, its easy to over fill dry sump motors AND they do sup a bit.
Soikolene Comp 4 15/50 for my 02 mille, cheap and good fer over 69k miles.
My old 1150GS used two litres in 10k miles, I used to be happy on the mille over 1500 miles on our europe trips with no top ups. Now I have the v4 its spare fuel I carry not oil..doh
ck

My 06 used to use oil, but as the mileage increased it's dropped to zero. The bikes now done 51,000 and it doesn't need topping up between oil changes.
But engines vary and if yours is running fine I wouldn't worry.
