Having had a new rear tyre from buying the bike in October 2010 , Im pretty much peeved that after just above 3000 miles I've got about 1.5 mm before the marker.Had a trip down to Somerset last year which squared the tyre slightly hence the 1.5 mm . Its the usual question of what should I expect from a rear depending on make etc . Do these bikes have that much torque that you can expect the tyre the last a few thousand miles ?

Yup, I run Pirelli's & get 2.5 to 3K max out of em :roll & the fronts shagged as well

try the pilot road 3's floakey as there better for long rides and grip superb too

or a similar st tyre

The old tyre debate,

My last bike was a duke 996sps, Fast group on trackdays, 1min 39 Cadwell park, fast amongst the boys on a ride out, 1-1500 motorway miles and 4-5000 mile out of a rear.

All this on Michelins,

PILOT ROAD 2's,

99% of road riders buy tyres way beyond their abilities and expect relatively high mileage, (not saying thats you Floakey)

I cannot hark on about the Road 2's enough, I haven't tried the 3's yet but going on reports they may be coming my way soon.

Try them out, forget about the super stickeys, not that powers are, but I will eat my words if you got them and didn't like them.

as been said 2.3-3k per pair for racey tyres..you need a cock bike matey lol, my rear tourance lasted 9.8k miles!!, and theyre even awesome in the wet./ice/snow
Thing is if you like to run in the lower gears ie; having fun, they dont last long.
My v4 can arse a pair of Metz racetechs in 2k or so (but it was fun doing it) lol lol

Its probably me not having a twin before and expecting a fair few miles out of a dual compound . Have already put a new front on 600 miles ago so will stick another 2ct on the back when ready , like to keep them the same and when it comes around again I'll be trying something new . Def like the sound of pilot roads as my mates got them on his viffer and he likes them . The last duals I had were bt20's on my blackbird and got about 7000 out of the back but I like the feel of the michelins so bit biased really .

I bloody wish I could get those sort of mileages! 1500mile and my rears down to the wood and that's the same with 3 different brands of tyres. These new SportSmarts seem canny but I toured on them last year so haven't had a chance to see how they'll last just scatching around the roads

Off to Scotland in june covering about 1300 miles and as the tyre is now , I could possibly get away with it but you know what its like when the twisties arrive . Always a problem when you change from sports tourers and choosing a tyre for scratching and touring .

i don't want to start another tyre thread so i picked up this one.
i have fitted the pilot power 2cts after previous dunlop sportmax qualifier IIs and sportmax qualifiers and i have 2 remarks

1. the wear markers on the sides seem to be very very shallow. dont you think?
2. when my mechanic was changing the tyres he told me tha the michelin 2ct (rear) is much more heavy and thicker than the pirelli diablos. shouldn't the weight of the tyre be a concern when used on track bikes?

beside that i felt the new tyres very ok for my slow ride and i trust them and they look well after the track day

Falco with Dunlop both tyres approaching 7k does keep the profile better maybe not as racy bit decent alround tyre

Pilot 2's for me, got 5k plus on last bike TDM 850 not sure what I'll get on the Mille

What the hell are some of you lot riding like to get so little mileage out a rear??!!!. :biggrin

I ride fairly quickly and keep up a respectable pace on the road without being a nutter and I usually manage about 3000m - 4000m out of a rear 2CT.

Ive just put a pair of Pilot Pures on and not managed to try them out yet. Im going to be interested on how they last as my mates got some and a mixture of track and roads theyre still going strong!
