Metzeler M7RR review

On the advice of my tame tyre fitter, (Strathearn tyres in Crieff) I have given up on the stock Rosso Corsas and gone with a pair of Metzeler M7RR's.

First up only £230 fitted, ride in ride out.

I was told that they were specifically designed for fast road riding with a high silicone content and dual compound. So they heat up quickly and should last longer than the Pirellis.

First impressions.
I have done around 500 miles of dry twisties through Scotlandshire and can honestly say that I felt instantly at home with these tyres.

I am no racer, but the confidence these tyres gave me was almost instant.

Transition from side to side is very quick and effortless and overall grip is superb. Even right on the edge of the tyres they are so confidence inspiring.

Today I got caught in a thunderstorm and torrential rain.

Now I am a fair weather biker these days and hate riding in the rain.

Again I felt confident riding through the twisties with lean angles that I wouldn't usually go anywhere near on the tyres that I have run before. Also under hard acceleration and braking there was not even a hint of them letting go.

My opinion of the M7RR.

Excellent tyre. Very happy with the recommendation from Strathearn tyres and will definately use them again.

I will update this with overall mileage when I get near to the end of their life.

Good write up min, I will need to change my Angel ST's soon, May try these if they last. I'm only getting 3-4k out of the Pirelli's at the moment

The guys obviously couldn't give me any guarantees re mileage, but my bike had eaten my last rear within 1200 miles.

I can tell from looking at the rear now that I will definitely get much more than that as it looks scrubbed in rather than used, if that makes any sense.

Very happy with them though. :thumbup

I have done 3k miles on the stock tyres but the rear is now shot. Doing a straight swap this time as will get the use of a new rear before the front is shot. Don't like mixing tyres.

They are good tyres but squirm a fair bit under hard riding. I found Dunlop Sportsmarts on my blade far more confidence inspiring. The Rossos do have more grip though once you get used to them moving around under you. Good write up anyway. May look at them when I am ready to change both tyres.

i.m like rizla 1200 miles and the stock tyre were finished...dunlop roadsmart 2,s .3000 miles in and plenty still left

Got M5's on my Tuono at the moment will be putting the M7's on when these are done

1,800 miles and I'm seeing some nasty wear already. Don't think I'll make 3,000. I'm interested in hearing more about these as well.

Great write up mate, I've been floating between the corsa sc for track days and the oEM corsa for the road. Gotta be honest, I hate the road tyre, the carcass feels too stiff, very little feedback leading to a general vague feeling. Might try the Metzelers.

As I said, I am not a racer, but love to ride the twisties in Scotland fast and these tyres gave me instant confidence in them.

You can feel everything going on beneath you. Very confidence inspiring.

I used to run battlax T30's on my RSV loved them, once the tyres on the T are shot I'll be going back to them, will keep you updated.

Tyre wear depends as much on how you ride as it does on WHERE you ride ie straight roads/twisties etc. If i use my bike for "play" around the bendy lanes my tyres don't square off nowhere near as much as if I use my bike for work up & down boring dual carriageways etc.

I agree with some others with regards to the Stock Corsas they are very good but do squirm a fair bit when under hard acceleration out of bends. I had them on my Street Triple R and they felt very planted but the extra power of the TV4 make them fidgety. Not sure what rubber to use as my stockies are now due for replacement cos the rears squared off (been using bike for work) and the fronts out of shape from to many hi speed wheelie touch-downs (on private roads ofcourse!). I've been commuting too much on straight highways and I'm squaring off. Hate that. One of the reasons nakeds suck to tour or commute with. I'll leave the commuting for the Sprint and leave the T for fun only!

Im in the minority it seems but I quite like Rosso Corsa's :) I've tended to fit these to most of my bikes over the years. Wear was a bit of a pain, my 1098 Streetfighter could eat a rear in about 1500 miles and I dont think the Tuono is going to do much better.

I also flick over to Diablo Rosso 2's every now and then. They gave me about 5000 miles on the Streetfighter with a slight trade off in feel. I'll probably give them a go on the Tuono when it eats its OEM Corsa's.

Tyres - always the personal preference.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

very true. people used to rave about 2CT's so I tried a set and thought they were rubbish so slow turning.

it's funny how people ask what tyres are good it is very personal and what fits one doesn't always suit another
