MCN do you buy:O
Why?
Why Not?

Do you like the bike mags or just buy them and curse as you read from cover to cover.

I gave up buying them as they constantly slated my previous ride, I thnk they are obsessed with the top 5% performanc eof a bike, when us road riders never really see the top 25% of a bikes performance

dont bother with MCN beucase its just full of crap. PB on the other hand is a very good mag that worth every penny.

I stopped buying MCN about a year ago. It's all gloom & doom and full of "exclusive" bits that are not - exclusive that is. I considered sending Potter (the ed, not harry) the definition of the word 'exclusive' but I thought that would be a bit sad.
Oh, by the way, it's also available to read in my local library. But I don't cos I get too mad at other people reading it. It should be exclusive to me.

I buy it everyweek, its a bit of lighthearted entertainment and has some good reports about the racing. I'd rather read the MCN than the daily newspapers..

MCN is full of very poorly written articles that really have to be taken with a pinch of salt. It makes me laugh how they can possibly fill a weekly newspaper this size full of motorcyle journalism without extending certain truth boundaries !

I subscribe to the excellent Bike Magazine

You guys complain, while we have to make do with meager cousins of the sister-in-law of the adopted brother of MCN?!?! :rant

:laugh I like PB though.. had ONE in my hands this year so far :skeptic

that Potters a **** head :jack

I do like MCN although I do get fed up with the doom and gloom at times and the way they can get on a hobby horse over some issues. Like the racing section and the bike reviews.

Whenever I read bike magazines, as opposed to newspapers, the articles always seem short and not as in depth.

I think MCN is underated. No other bike paper is quite as effective at soaking up the wee in my kid's Guinea Pigs cage :devious

I've bought the odd one to look at the ads but agree it's a bit sensationalist. Much prefer PB which I buy every month and then buy the odd 'RiDE', 'Bike', 'Superbike' etc. if I'm a bit bored. If I'm really really desperate I'll buy 'Fast Bikes' but only if they have a freebie on the cover :blush

I still think most of the bike reviews are crap though. As PJ says all they are interested in these days is track and race use. As I've owned different bikes over the years not one has been anything like the reviews I had read before hand. Someone needs to set up a company to allow buyers to fully test a wide range of bikes before buying. I'd pay a fair bit to be able to make an informed decision before buying.

Mind you I have my RSV now and won't be buying another bike for a long long time :inlove

Bike reviews are very hard to do though really, much harder than a car that for sure! Reason being as in a car you just control it, everyone controls it the same so it will be pritty much the same experiance. Unlike a bike were you acutally a integral part, its your HOLE body that controls the bike. So one persons weight/hight/riding style might suit the bike down to the ground as the next persons wont. Thus reading one persons opinion on the bike isnt really worth while. Im more intrested in build quility ect than what the person actually thought when riding it.

I use to have it delivered and stopped all that when i found you can get all you need to know of MCN.COM ... just look and read what you want without having to sift through all the doom and gloom ... Bike and RIDE magazine are good... Fast bike mag good too :eatcorn

Don't read MCN, haven't done so for 5 or 6 years, Back Street Heroes for me:pirate:pirate

Tend to do MCM online more than pay 1.80 to read **** loads of adverts and bugger all news. They only ever seem to report on the same riders too,, Neil hodgey, Ellison, Chaz Davis and alike get bugger all in there,, They only seem to get mentions when it goes **** up for them.
Do like PB though, Guy Martin can write a hell of a report and they don`t always push the £12k plus bikes in your face.

I read MCN every week more for the sport than anything else some weeks there is some intresting bits in there but some times theres a load of dribble in there but it's the only weekly motorcycle paper published so it narrow's down the choice a bit.

I can totaly agree with tantrum, i do try and get it on a weekly basis as its a bit of an interesting read but come saturday its doing its job perfectly soaking up my little wabbits pee.....:thumbup

I've not bothered with anything from EMAP's stable (Bike, Classic Bike, Motor Cycle News, Performance Bikes, RiDE & What Bike?) on a regular basis for many years now.

Not only are they guilty of trotting out the same old stuff on a regular basis (10-year cycle?), but they're also guilty of syndicating their material (i.e. the same test will appear in different publications with a change of author and a few minor changes to the words). One gets the impression that the hack in question has simply plagierised the company brief without having sat astride the bike, sometimes!

Call me a cynic, but I remain to be convinced that they're able to provide an independent/objective opinion. Like any service profession, they'll be the slave of their revenue source - the advertisers!

The best of breed I ever encountered was Germany's 'Das Motorrad' - but even that would've been subject to the same constraints.
