mapping a 2000 mille

L

littlescrote

i'm quite new to the aprilia and the board so have some questions that i hope somebody has some information on

i've learnt that the chip in the ecu contains 2 maps that can be switched by the 'blue wire' (even on the fly if you install a switch to make or break the wire it would seem as the run program regularly checks the status of the blue wire)

my ecu has the original chip A63 which contains a restricted map (for sale in USA and other markets?), and a non restricted map. being a uk bike, the blue wire has been cut so it runs on the derestricted map thankfully.

what i would like to be able to do would be to replace the restricted map with an 'economy' map so that when cruising along on a long journey (to the alps or wherever, some of which unfortunately has to be done by motorway) i could flick the switch and get more mpg out of it.

has anybody done anything like that?

i have also been looking at the UltraMod project that some clever bloke in America has been doing at http://www.randomexploits.com/projects/ultramod/ultramod.htm

that sounds awesome if it ever gets finished and made available. i worked on a similar thing for sierra cosworths that replaced the chip with a module that allowed it to be programmed on the fly and stored in flash memory rather than just written to an eprom.

on a slightly separate note, but i bought a spare ecu off ebay the other day that came with a chip on a babyboard. unfortunately the chip was rattling around the ecu loose, and i forgot to take note of which way around the babyboard should be fitted. has anybody got a photograph showing it?

Heard of a few people using the restricted map as a rain map due to it's softer delivery.

Aprilia have kind of gone that way with the shiver etc which has 3 maps in the ecu.

not a bad idea if you find a nice tidy way of switching. were it me i would wire the lights permantaly on like the later bikes and use the light switch as a map switch. that would look nice and tidy.

the restricted map is not necessarily a good idea to use at full throttle though as withot the physical parts of the restrictor in place, the fuelling and ignition could be far enough out to cause long term damage.

i hope to get a chip with one map for power and one for economy soon, and that does sound like a neat idea on how to switch them. complicates the wiring somewhat compared to a separate switch somewhere though and i've just bought a mint wiring loom to replace mine that had been chopped about for an alarm.
