If i was to buy a PC3, am i able to change the mapping to map 2?
Im going to core the exhausts, and after looking on here apparently its a better mod with map 2 / race 2 settings.

Thx

you will need a dealer with an axone to do this, otherwise the ecu will ignore the commands from the pcIII

ps if you're coring the cans, get an air filter more suitable to higher air flow like K&N

Get Map2 activated and throttle bodies resynced after fitting your cored cans. Then if you think you need one fit a PC3 and get a custom map done

One thing I have done is get the throttle bodies synched.

Why is it needed and whats involved???

its like the old balancing of carbs so they work optimaly (is that even a word)
when more air is coming in or going out you need to balance the mixture of air and fuel so that all injectors are working efficiently.

ECU can control the fire etc but not the actual injectors......

also if you have less back pressure from exhaust then you tend to lose bottom end grunt

i'm sure legs or spoonz could give you a more technical reply

but to summarize - they just need to be done every 10,000 miles or if you make significant changes to inlet/outlet

Actually you can run a Pc111 on either map 1 or 2 but if you do it on map 1 you need a dynojet oxygen sensor controller. It's fools the ecu into thinking the lamda is connected and working when in fact it's not. In effect it gives you Map2 type open loop without having to change the ecu settings.

You also need one if you run a full on Race system with no Lamda fitment in the header. The ecu gets upset if no probe reading is present.

For 04 bikes onwards there is just 1 adjustment for fueling which balances co2 between cylinders at idle. Vacuum is matched because both Tb's are linked via the stepper motor (assuming no leaks).

Earlier bikes had co2 trimmers (if enabled) on the ecu and bypass screws for Vac setting.

Spoonz are you saying that the 04 onwards balances the TB itself or do they still need doing

The both Tb Vac outlets run to a common source (stepper motor) so yes there is no vac sync adjustment on 04 on bikes. It should still be measured via the axone in a service but purely to determine there are no vac leaks. Generally you will know though if you have a vac leak cos the idle will be bad and low speed running suffers.

What you do instead to get a matched/efficient burn in each cylinder is sync the co2 for each cylinder via a gas analyser. In effect you bring the highest cylinder (co2 wise) to match the lowest. On mine they match around 4.6 % but can vary a fair bit. Did one a while back at over 6%. You can't determine how much co2 is in the mixture (ecu does that via the sensors on the can line) but just that it is matched between both cylinders.
