Map 2 or not ?

Hi

Any tuning experts out there ?

I'm just having some Akrapovic end cans fitted (the official Aprilia ones with carbon end covers pt no,. 860648) fitted to my 2008 Tuono at local dealer and he is advising that it's best not to change to engine map 2 - any thoughts ?

Is this the ones with the cats in the link pipes?? If so I just fitted a set of them to my Tuono and got it changes over to map 2. What a differance it has made, so much smoother at low revs. Only down side I lost all the pops and bangs!!
I do however plan to get a set of link pipes made up without cats in them just to see what it's like

pm Packhorse I think he has just had the same cans fitted as you.

This is doing my head in now, I was always of the understanding that the cats were in the link pipe collector box area[not sure exactly where] on the 08/09 Factory model but they are in the cans on the 08/09 R models. I've been told I'm wrong, but I reckon I might just be right. Hope someone can put me right once and for all. Anyhoo you will still need map 2. Or do you ????? come on techies.
 
my 09 factoy has the cats in the link pipes, but these are part of the standard cans, if that makes sense? Changing to aftermarket cans does away with the cats unless you buy the said Akrapovic cans which comes with cats in their link pipes, why I do not know :no :banghead
 
was told that the akro's run better on map 1 only if they run with the cats which yours does(i think)a picture will help,but make sure because if you run on map 2 and its not ment to it will run rich and clog up the cats and start to run crap,
if i was you ide be sending an email to akrapovic themselfs just to be sure after spending that sort of dosh on cans,
this has been asked 100 times on ape forums and if the cats are taken of its deffonately map2 but not sure about the akro cats
hopfully somone with these cans fitted will be along soon to advise you from past expereance

nobi mate the cats on standard cans are in the link pipes just where they enter the cans even on 09 plate

I know bud, my idea of a link pipe is a seperate piece of pipe that links the pipes to the can not a fixed piece, thats where I/others are getting confused. The cats are in the cans[on the standard ones which came on my bike] as far as I'm conserned. Where the can points to the rider footpeg the 'can' has a sort of small mid section before the link section. It kind of steps up from pipe to cat to can. There's a little heat shield on it.

yup gotcha,supose what im calling a link pipe aint really a link pipe on the standard cans as its part of the can if that makes sence lol

So, where does this leave Happypants?
Normal curcumstances is open pipes means map 2 eh ?
So if he's got Akys with cats this means map 1 eh ?
 
Thanks for all your help with this guys - just picked up the bike from the dealer with map2 installed and she goes like a dream !
