The tax is up the end of the month and not renewing it cos i dont ride in the winter. I recently had a new battery and interested in whats the best way to keep it in tip top condition while off the road ?

Obviously i will be removing the battery from the bike but do i need to charge it regularly, once a week, once a month ?

Forgot to mention its charged via an Optimate

Cheers,

Ritch

I would think an hour or two on the optimate once a week should keep the plates in good nick over winter.

?? beyond my expertise sprocker ol mate..not sure what would be the ideal...was just thinking of power saving :p

The Optimate's et al are quite happy to be left connected to the battery for very long periods of time, however I would every so often disconnect it for 10/15 minutes then reconnect this starts the whole testing/charging cycle again and ensures that nothing untoward is happening.

I think if your going to disconnect, then you have to switch the power off then back on, once connected :thumbup

Yep, as Sprocker says, disconnect the Optimate from battery, turn off at mains, then reconnect the Optimate, then back on at the mains to set charging cycle . You can leave the optimate on indefinatley
