Mornin' all...

I got the Mille stripped down a bit at the weekend, mainly just to have a look under the fairings and see where the relevant bits are for the oil change planned for next weekend.
I noticed that the allan/hex head on the oil drain plug (crank case not oil tank) is a bit mullered, so I had a look for a replacement but I was a but surprised that they're going for £12ish plus VAT and delivery!
Is there any reason I shouldn't just order one of these... http://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/WK-7239304PLUS/ or similar to replace it?

Cheers

Rob

None at all. I replaced mine a few months back, no problems.
One thing is for sure, the allen hole in the OE drain plug is as soft as cheese, and you do not want to be drilling/chiselling/grinding/hammering the ******* out when that hole rounds off.

They look ok, and probably work ok, The original has no sealing washer as it is self sealing by a machined angled face. If it has been torqued up to the correct torque figure ( a very low 12nm ) you shouldnt mash up the head. I did try one similar to the wemoto one, but could never get it to seal fully, it weeped oil slowly. if your main criteria is cost then its worth trying it..

Cost isn't my main criteria, having something that works properly is but as is often the case, the genuine manufacturers part isn't always the best part for the job (as my recent reading on here would suggest - starter solenoid, sprag, brown connectors) but they are more often than not, twice the price...
I agree though, it must have been butchered a bit in the past to get it into that state (overtightened or allen key not in square (fingers crossed for the threads)) but if I replace it with something I can get a t-bar or socket onto, it's less likely to happen again!?

I guess you could get 1 made up same as the original in a machine shop in high tensile steel with whatever your preferred head ie. hex, torx, allen etc.... then have it magnetized .........

sorry m8 I thouht u said cost wasn't ur main criteria LOL
but its just another avenue u could go down........
