Hi there! Have just bought a 2004 Tuono - picking it up next weekend. The test ride made my mind up for me! Taking it to France - what luggage will fit please? Not found anything on the net yet!

Take a look at what I've done here - http://www.tuonozone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97

I used a piece of aluminum plate, rubber dampers, bolts, nuts and a seat pin to form the base plate which snaps onto the latch like the seat cover. The GIVI base plate attach to this plate via 4 bolts and the GIVI top box snaps on top. The nice thing about this setup is I can switch it out with the single seat cover in 5 secs.

If you fill your Givi box will the seat holder be strong enough?

Baglux tank cover & bag

Ventura rack and Spada bag

gives about 80 litres total capacity, and the ventura system is way stronger than a standard tail pack.

The Rear seat option is ok, but is a bit light on capacity - it can be done easiest with a used seat cowl of an early mille - they can be picked up from Ebay for pennies, just use the base plate and screw a tank bag (I use an Aprilia one I got from Fleabay) or a smallish topbox.

I am using a 33 liter GIVI top box and I packed mostly clothings and such, nothing really heavy. So far, so good. The base plate mounts to the same points as the OEM rear seat. I reasoned that if the rear seat can carry a pillion rider using the same mounting points, the base plate should carry an equivalent load.

Not quite, a pillion sits on the seat, the weight transfers through the rubbers onto the subframe. The topbox is trying to lever itself off backwards every time you accelerate, and is held in place by the fibreglass of the seat unit.

It will be fine, just be sensible about how much weight you put in it.

Hi Everyone,

I am a member of Club Aprilia in England and live near to the New Forest in Hampshire.

I am riding my second Tuono, a 2008 Red Lion Factory. I sold my first Tuono my mistake and suffered from withdrawal symptoms!!

I also ride a blue R1 to keep my daughter company on her R6 - but I am too old for the riding position. As it's an original 1998 model I will probably keep it and pass it on.

Regards to all out there,

Thanks for all the help guys! Think I'll go for Humpack throw-overs and either Ventura or the Givi option. The Givi has the advantage of being a bit more thief-proof. Liked the idea of using a Mille base-plate. Good thinking!

By the way, I'm in Taunton, Somerset, UK.

Cheers!

Mike.

I've bought one of these (35ltr)

http://www.bikehps.com/bagster/

Mounts to 4 points under the seat / pod and just unzips from the mouting sides when you arrive.

To be honest I've yet to use it in anger, but I cannot see how it would fail, the quality looks 1st class though

Its not a Tuono, but I've got a givi-knock off 46L top box, a pair of soft bags and a tank bag on the 919 and have found that I can carry enough stuff for the whole summer in this way (including a complete set of MX kit strapped to the rear seat...)

My luggage options are covered by combinations of (or all if required):

Famsa tankbag
Kriega tailpack
Knox Aero backpack

That's enough for me.

Here's what I used for my 6 week trip to denver on the 919. Different bike, but sorta similar. The soft stuff and top box are generic. The rack for the top box is a sw motec which was purchased from twisted throttle (great service).

All this was packed on the bike.

Do you have a picture of the top box rack?

Two things make me dubious of the fastrack (detailed in the link I posted):
1. my pillion seat is heavily contoured and I don't think it would lay in a fixed position
2. what's to stop me (or anyone for that matter) from buying a grill insert and some velcro straps for considerably less money?

On the 919 the top box rack bolts directly to the subframe behind the pillion seat where the factory grab handle would ordinarly go. Its made of rather thick aluminum (probably 1/8" or better) and is secured by two 8x125mm bolts on each side. It doesn't replace the seat or attach to it in any way. I don't think I have a picture of the rack without the box on it. I'm not sure I'd want to try to secure the top box to the pillion seat - doesn't sound too secure. Perhaps check with givi and sw motech to see if either make racks for the T:O

I don't know how many Tuonos are on the street out there but it seems to me that someone who was willing to design and fabricate a givi compatible mount for either a top box or hard side bags could sell a unit to a healthy percentage of owners. The lack of a mounting frame designed specifically for the Tuono seems to be the biggest reason for the lack of luggage options.

Yeah, that is annoying. I'm sorta surprised there isn't a givi or motec rack for it. Perhaps the subframe design makes building a rack for one overly complicated:O

I'm with you guys! Having transferred a Givi box from bike to bike, it's a pain not having fixings for the Tuono! Nothing like having hard luggage - safer to walk away from.

Anyone tried making one up?
