Knocking feeling?

Hi,

I'm feeling a knock when braking, almost like the head stock is loose but I don't think it is, when stopped if I clamp on the front brake and push down repeatedly I can feel the suspenion move and the headstock seems fine, the discs do move slightly but the knocking feels like it could be the brake pads moving, but thats not possible, called the garage they said it's the floating discs but i'm not convinced.

Any ideas?

might sound obvious but have you checked the calipers are tight ??

You know what I thought it might be that I was ment to check them but forgot, will do that tonight, just need to make sure it's not something else like the bearings if it is I've got 3 months warrenty I will be taking advantage of.

Hiya mate I had exactly the same thing on my Suzuki GSXR1000 K7. Happened every now and again when braking and felt like a clunk. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and they said the bearings in the headstock were fine. Even took it to another dealer when I was having some tyres changed and they said the bearings were fine as well. It was that bloody annoying that I changed it and bought a BMW instead.

Everyone I spoke to said it was the floating discs as well and I've read in a few magazines it could have that effect. I've not got it on the Tuono though but I've got an older model. Still think its floating discs on it though but no knocking.

Very disconcerting isn't it.

It is indeed, I called Moto Forza at Silverstone they said it's most likely a combination of disc, calipers, pads and suspenion compressing.

Hmmm, jamming on the front brake, then pumping the forks is not the correct way to check the steering bearings. You need to get the front wheel in the air and pull/push on the forks.(down by the spindle)Then turn the front wheel lock to lock to check for any notchiness.(made up word?)
Watch yer MOT man when he does it.

I know but unfortunatly I don't have a front paddock stand, but moto forza said they will look for free for me but did say it's highly unlikely to be the wheel bearing.

Front paddock stand wont help. All you need is a mate to pull up and back the bike on the sidestand.Make sure he grips the frame and not the 'bars.
Doh! Are we talking wheel or steering bearings?:confusedIf the PO was a wheelie merchant both will soon get knocked out.

SuperJo, I remember reading aboot the same prob.

In that case it was the floating disc being jamed up ie the lateral movement was restricted by the muck in between the floating joints. Get yer pads back from the disc and see if there's any sideways movement in the disc, if not then what yer feeling may be due to the stickyness of the joints.
Give the joints a good clean and see if that makes a difference. It'll only cost yer time.

Hope yer get it sorted.

A min, it might hae been a thread ah stuck oan a whiley ago oan the old site. Ah wiz gettin a strange "knockin feelin" comin thru bars occassionally if hard braking say from 60ish doon. Checked everything an its dug but nothin seemed amiss. (Includin head bearins the richt way!)

The only thing ah did notice was a bit of movement of the brake disc rotor axially aboot the carrier as if the bobbins wiz worn a bitty. Couldnt find any info on wear tolerances or similar for this particular thing so have jist lived wi it as it wisnae that big an issue really jist strange.

I read somewhere on a forum lately that you should slip a bolt through the rivet and tighten it up with a nut then use the head to turn the rivet to clean it

Simples

Another thing that can happen is the front suspension is out of line, this generally feels like the disc is untrue

To sort this you slacken the pinch screws and bolt and push the suspension up and down . Then tighten it all up again

The very one r.

Only I thought it ended up a fix.
