Key woes

Greetings all, I had a bit of an oops moment earlier this week, while trying to unlock the seat I managed to break the key in the seat lock, I tried various styles of tweezer to pick the bit out, no success. ebay put me onto sets of little hook like tools, £3.50, worth a gamble. Anyway, I couldn't manage to pull the piece out but drilling a very small hole in the back of the lock was something of a success, when the piece was pushed so far out the little hook tools did the rest. So now I need another key as a spare I may add, the question is "does the key possess a chip" can I just get a key cut or do I have to get one from aprilia, blanks are quite cheap buy the ad States "no chip". The bike, it's a gen 1 built in 02, registered in 08.

Glad you got the broken but out. Agree with hs2300. No chip or transponder unit on my Gen 1. Pretty certain that's true of all Gen 1's.

Thanks guys, I've been through the forum and what little there is on gen1 keys agrees, I'm considering myself very lucky to have "got away with it" but unlucky to have broken it in the first place. Got a replacement coming from China for about £3.50 I may order some more blanks to be really safe about £13 for 5 blanks, should last well into my second childhood.
