Just when I was wondering what to fettle next....

S

swoodwar

I was riding in Chester last Friday when a Freelander I was about to pass turned right in front of me.
I don't remember the next bit until the phone call to the missus in the back of the ambulance 20 minutes later. Anyway, all body parts functioning correctly (I fell on my head) but my Mille needs some help. As I was only TPF&T, I'll be scratting about to get the parts to fix her up as economically as possible. If you can point me in the direction of any of the following for a silver '02 bike, it would be most helpful;
Front fairing/clock frame.
Front fairing & wind deflectors (headlamp looks OK)
RHS mid fairing
outer air scoops both sides (possibly inners too, haven't inspected them thoroughly yet)
Mirrors
Front indicators
Windshield
There's doubtless more once I get into it, but those are the bits so far...

I've already scooped up a second hand speedo from this forum, but need to know if the mileage can be adjusted to be correct for my bike (or whether it's possible to transplant the innards; mine still work, but the casing is cracked front and rear).

Also good body panel repair source in the North West (some of the panels look cosmetic and might be OK with a lick of paint) would be helpful.

I know, I know; you want pictures - I'll try to post some when I get home later.

Bad luck mate, what about the driver, have they offered to cover cost etc, could you pursue that through the court :dunno

Glad your ok tho' it could have been much worse

I had the same thing happen to me, the front car of a row of three turned right into a farm entrance when i was overtaking from the back.
My insurance argued the case of 50/50 liability and that was the outcome, lost my no claims bonus :angry but didnt have to fork out excess :thumbup

It's easy to swap the cases. Good luck findingthe other bits. At least you're okay:thumbup

Sorry to hear about your accident Swoodwar but glad you are OK.

You are the third person Ive read about who was taken out by a vehicle "suddenly" turning right. Ask your self this question - and Im really not having a go at you or anyone else - would a vehicle turn right unexpectidly if there was no junction/gateway/farm entrance/layby? Probably not. But if those things(Hazards) ARE there how do you know the vehicle wont turn unexpectidly? Rehtorical question cos the short answer is that you dont. So why in the name of sweet Jesus do some bikers insist on overtaking in this situation? The fact that the driver of the vehicle is in the wrong by giving no indication is no defence against getting taken out - as you and others have found out. Laying in a hospital bed ,your body wrapped in plaster saying " it wasnt my fault he didnt indicate" isnt a lot of good is it?

It may not even happen in an overtake situation. If you are following and see the hazard then back off - give some space.

So come on chaps, use your eyes. If there is ANY chance of the vehicle in front turning right then abort the overtake if you are doing one or back off if you are following and wait until the hazard has passed. It aint rocket sience.

OK rant over. Hard hat on . Ready for the bricks.

Once again Im glad to hear you are ok. Shame about your bike - I hope you can get it fixed soon.

Sound advice Sabre.

Glad your Ok mate. There are a few breakers that operate on ebay, can't think of their names but I'm sure I read about them on here a while ago, may be worth checking out.

Just done a Bike Safe course with Gwent Police - 2 days of great riding - learnt loads and totally agree with Sabre's comments. Even had myself clocked by my 'copper' passing him while he was doing 128mph!!!! Recommend to all - as long as the course is run by your local coppers.
