Ok so picked up my new to me 2005 Tuono from Raceways today. Great service, look forward to going back. First ride back fairly sedate, get used to the bike, had my lad along on his YBR125, so nothing too mad.
Went out again on my own, this time............oh yeah, i'm converted. Who needs a blade (cant believe I just said that !!). So easy to ride (fast), pulls very strongly and thats in standard form and to be honest I wasnt going silly, just making good progress officer. Never ridden V twin properly before so all a bit new.

So first to be done will be to ditch the big standard can and fit something a bit naughtier.

Just one question, when i fit a race can, do i need power commander on its own, just the chip that i see mentioned a lot, or a combination of both.
I'll be doing fast road riding, hopefully some track days and a gentle stroll to work, so although one wheel is good, it needs to be usable.
cheers all

Got a Power Commander (PC3 USB) here looking for a new home.

It's got a map in it for race can, standard airbox but with K&N filter, should be good enough to get you started until you can get it on a dyno.

£150 if you're interested ;-)

Got a cheap race can here too ......re-sleeved and recently re-packed, including link pipe ------- £75

Hi, cheers for that. I would normally be interested but cant commit to any purchases this month, overspent a little recently. What make can is it ???
thanks
Guy

HI Guy

No idea on the make of can I'm afraid. I re-sleeved it and re-packed it 'cos it was a bit bashed up. It's been on my track bike for 2 track days since.

Cheers

You don't need a PC with silencer upgrades but it may be likely that you will have to get a dealer to switch you engine mapping from map 1 to map 2. They usually charge around £50.00 for the privilege of doing so although not all aftermarket need this. May be slightly differant for the Gen 1's. There's plenty ojn here with them who would know better than me.

You don't need to visit a dealer to de-restrict a 2005 Tuono as it's the same as all Gen 1 RSVs.

I'd be suprised though if it hadn't been done at PDI before the first owner collected it. There's a restrictor in the airbox, OEM can's linkpipe to be removed and a wire from the ECU to be snipped all of which will have been done long ago I should imagine.

'05 is gen 1 Mick, I would have thought it would be on map 2 at this time in it's life. There's a thread on here on how to do it yourself somewhere.
Get the gearing right first 16 front, 43 or 44 rear, then see what you want it to do before the pc route.

I only did the 16 front sprocket and that made a huge difference to the way it runs in terms of usability. Will go to 44 rear when I change the chain and sprockets in the winter.

welcome to the forum. It looks like you are clued up on a few things already.
The chip is enough on a Gen1

A Gabro chip, any can apart from OE, 16T front & 44T rear should induce a rather large smile to your noggin whilst still making the T perfectly useable for a quick hoon and daily duties :thumbup
I did the above & it's just about as good as it gets :yes
