the brown connector still on the bike!!....when i bought the bike off gixerhowie he thought the previous owner had done the mod....he hadn't
looks like its still to be done then!!......i've only ever soldered small indicator wires....is it pretty easy to do bigger ones?
is anybody local on here good at soldering and done the mod before that i can bribe with guinness or is it best to go to an auto electrician
i know theres the mod in the how to thread so i'll follow that if i do it myself....just dont want to melt any wires:dunno
anyway the new tail tidy looks great:devious

You read to much forums.

The brown connector isnt such a big deal, 10 years on the bike and it still works :)

Check it if there is any idication of rusted connectors or melted plastic. If not just leave it, it will survive another year or two of you owning the bike ;)

I know what you're saying, and most owners would probably never have an issue with the connectors, but there IS a slight chance of melting so doing the mod means one less thing to worry about imo :dunno:dunno i did mine even tho' my connectors were ok.

mine were melted, it does happen,(things get really hot there) better to replace with some nice heat shrink ones.

My terminals inside the brown and white connectors were rather loose at the terminal, (metal bits), connection, not much tension during the "pull" check. As mine were pristine, I disassembled and mashed the female half slightly to get a better connection , reassembled and sealed with silicon GREASE, (not RTV). I've had no problems and they never heat up at all. 9800mi. all weather.

how dya know they dont heat up, dya ride with yer hand under seat unit lol
only kidding

Yuk, Yuk Yuk!!! You real funny guy!! Only post ride visual. I'm not good enough to ride with my hand stuffed up the tail, but I see many who can ride with their head up there, no doubt to get a first-hand, real-time look at the white one!!

Soldering in not a big deal you just need more heat to melt the tin on bigger wires.
So more power. I have two different "soldering tools" sorry the word is out of my vocabulary at the moment. One for small precise work and one for big wires ;)
