2002 RSV Mille. Bike starts first time all the time even if left in the garage for a few days but now and again after I stop and try to restart, such as after filling up, the dash resets and a slight delay before starter turns. Changes to kmh, clock back to 00.00, rev limit back to 6k. Probably going to change the battery anyway but is there anything else to check? Voltage on dash usually 13.4 v.

Will check them first thing in the morning, bern reading a few threads on here and other places. Brown Connector mod to check if been done too. Seems to be charging OK but I suspect the battery due to bike only doing 1100 miles in seven years and not sure when last replaced. Any YTX14BS battery off eBay do or is there one that most prefer?

Have a search - many prefer MotoBlatt as they give better cranking

Cheers Dr_D. I did search but got a bit sick of everyone saying the one they have is best, and having to modify this and that to get it to fit. All I want is a no hassle replacement that drops right in lol. Just found out the battery is 8 years old, bought by the previous owner when he got it, only doing 2k miles in all that time. ☺

An eight year old battery is certainly due for replacement. However, the same (or similar) symptoms have been experienced by some with faulty battery cables. The fault is that the crimp between the cable terminal and the wire conductors loses continuity. Often a little corrosion may accelerate the process. At any rate, the connection can be greatly improved by flowing solder into the back of the cable terminal to create a more reliable cable assembly.

Battery readings this morning.

Ignition off, Dash 12.1v multi meter @ battery 12.4v
Ignition on, lights on Dash 11.6v multi meter @ battery 11.8v
Running, lights off Dash 13.8v multi meter @ battery 13.9v
Running, lights on Dash 13.4v multi meter @ battery 13.7v
Running @ 4k rpm Dash 12.8v multi meter @ battery 13.2v

Battery definitely in need of renewing but does the drop at 4k indicate a charging fault at revs - reg/rec, brown connector etc

That is the beginnings of a problem - in the wiring, not the rec/reg.

I've removed the brown connector this morning and now getting 13.4v on the dash and on the multi meter @4k rpm which is a slight improvement. I've seen a couple more posts about adding an extra wire or 2 into the other connector and running to the neg on the battery but seemed a bit vague, anyone got a link to a clear how to guide? Thanks.
