It's died already

A month into owning it and it has already given up. Riding home from work yesterday. I was five minutes into journey when I approached the junction and it cut out when I pulled the clutch in. Tried restarting and it turns over like its really trying but won't start at all. Im thinking battery issues because the time has reset. It has been cutting out here and there at junctions and traffic lights but starts every time and I was hoping this would pass.

It goes back to the shop today but I simply don't trust them to fix it. :roll

Sounds like battery mate. If you can upgrade it to one with more cranking amps. Griff sells an uprated one

May have cut out if the tbs require balancing/syncing

Does it die every time you pull the clutch in or at random times not matter if the clutch is pulled in or not ?

Batteries often fail for a reason.

What year is your bike? If it is a pre 2008 model you might want to test the output of the generator.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Kiwi: it is ever now and then when I am rolling to a stop and pul the clutch in. It's a strange one. Can't wait to get it fixed because I love riding it. Hope I haven't killed the sprag by constantly trying to restart it

Could be the little cut out switch under the lever. Make sure the plunger is returning when the lever's let out

HTH

There is a microswitch located under the clutch lever (Gen 1's) , they can and do go wrong, just like the side stand switch and this symptom is similar to how Yorkshire describes.

Check that the stepper motor is moving the IACV correctly. It controls your slow running/idle. Raise the tank, not forgetting to diss the connector first. Unscrew the lid of the airbox and look for a small round cylinder to the right of the main intakes. Switch the ign on and off, and you should hear and see the valve moving. Give it a tiny squirt of WD40 anyway . . .

Hi folks just a quick update. The dealership have told me that it was a split pipe that was sucking in some air which only became an issue when the bike was idling at low revs (occasionally dying)

Its ready to collect so hopefully no more drama and i can get some decent miles in on her :inlove

Sorry should've mentioned earlier but its a 2004 RSVR

Will put up a separate post but im desperate for a passenger seat. Have looked on ebay and dont really fancy paying 70 quid plus for one.
If anyone has a cheap one that they can sell, i would be grateful.

Cheers for your suggestions, Mark.

Hi YorkshireRSV,
Im having the same problem. Which pipe was split? Was it one of the small rubber pipes on the throttle bodies?

Probably one of the tiny ones on the LHS of the bike. The connect the throttle body to the MAP sensor.
