Ok so done nearly all the mods......................

but........battery is a ytx12 standard jobbie & solenoid is I think an original 50amp block of cheese, checked on multimeter before going out 13.6v so should be ok started alright from cold......this time........I took her out for a spin to the local shop 2 miles down the road.........................came back out to start......clutch in.. press the starter there is an Hickup from the starter then all goes dead.....2nd try Hickups massive pause try's to start but failed to catch-----bollocks..........3rd start Hickups then dead...........4th start Hickups massive pause then starter starts turning and she lights up does this sound like battery or solenoid..........I'm gonna replace both with upgraded units but is very offputting when thinking of taking the bike out and trying to restart it!!

Maybe the starter motor on its way out any one know if these suffer with this prob!!

did your clocks reset?
this has happened to me ,it was a loose battery lead, even though it felt tight enough,

No clocks are fine.........& keep thir readings battery terminal tight as... I am suspecting the solenoid cos it does this very often....... press the starter u get a split second whir then nothing and the clock lights go out than 2nd time it'l be ok and start .....asforementioned I think the only way out of this is to spend some dosh on a meatier battery and solenoid?????

deffo get the uprated battery, have you tried bridging the solenoid

I've got the upgraded battery & solenoid & this still happens to mine sometimes  but it's random one day all is fine, another day it's takes every bit of oomph in the battery to turn it over & the bloody clocks reset which is a right pain in the arse :dunno

What happens when u do bridge the solenoid>???? Does it start without the hiccup????
Gonna go out and try mine a few times now.................... let u know in a bit.............:confused

Mine used to do the whole pause...reset clocks to km/h....start.. thing, but only occasionally, and only when it was warm, cold starts have never been a problem, but since i've done all the wiring mods, extra wires, cut out plugs, extra earth lead etc and started using a solar trickle charger when she's parked up, (no electric in my garage) i've had no more probs (touch wood) definately still gonna upgrade the battery though and possibly the solonoid, although i think the previous owner already did the solonoid (How can I tell please, anyone?).

Starter test maybe????

Right as promised I went out started my rsv up and of course as it was cold started up without as fuss................ any way warmed it up then turned it off....next I got the solenoid out of its holder tags pulled back the insulated terminals .....got a heavy duty pair of long nose pliers then tujrned on ignition crossed the pliers between the 2 terminals and CRACK staight into life ...no hesitation did this 20x and perfect every time indicates to me to get the best starter solenind poss as if my batt was knackered when I tried this test it would still struggle as cold cranking amps would not be there if I'm sounding like a novice please chome in:biggrin

Sounds right to me :thumbup when I replaced my solenoid I got a 150A one from Wemoto not sure if these are as good quality as genuine Yam ones which are supposed to fit :dunno

Its what I'm gonna go for m8 cross referenced part numbers and seen a suitable solenoid that fits a 125 yam scooter on ebay looks pretty much new for £8 posted worth a punt....only thing is none of the solenoids listed actually state the ampage rating!! which is rather frustrating:confused....suppose anything's gotta be better than original 50amp that is obviously just not up to the job!!

Thats the 1!!!
Although there are a lot of yamha models they fitted this part to............
do your research and get urself a bargain gettin mine foir £8 posted !! Hopefully its gonna sort me out :thumbup

Ok got £8 solenoid yesterday and fitted it Started her up to 80 degrees then switched off.
Started and switched off 15 times and it didn't once suffer the large pause immediately after hitting the button..........still gonna get me a new motobatt though as want that extra cca.........mines on its way out as will only hold full charge for 2-3days :-(
