Hey guys,

It feels like my speedo is over reading, as in says i'm going faster than i actually am. So to test, i have made a note of the speed in 6th gear at 4k as 71-72 mph. Can anyone confirm this on their bike please?

Ta,

Anton

It will all depend on what gearing you are using Anton, else none of us can provide a like for like reading. Your easiest way would be to get a friend with a car and see what their speedo is reading as you ride next to them at a constant pace.

What makes you think it is over reading?

According to Gearing Commander click me at 4000rpm on standard gearing the speed should be 72.4 mph.

sounds about right anton, i get 30mph at 3000rpm in 3rd if thats any help, handy to know for villages etc! also regarding griffs visit, either day should be fine for me, but i'm going to have to wait and see as to what work i have done....piggy bank is a little empty at the moment, and my cutch has started slipping to confuse matters further!!! :confused
i hope a quick oil change will sort it, but may be getting griff to have a look at that instead...!

I've come to the conclusion that the RSV speedo is actually quite accurate. I remember reading in Bike mag that the RSV speedo showed exactly the same as the GPS logger, and was the only bike not to over-read.
I was out on Sunday and had a little blast along a straight road between two mini roundabouts.

My mate said we were about similar speeds (he was behind me), and if anything I was pulling away slightly.

My speedo recorded 146mph and he saw 157mph- he has a '58 plate GSXR600.
Pretty much certain his Suzuki was over reading by 10%!

The RSV is very deceiving speed wise i've found :devious took me a while to recalibrate my riding when i first got it :biggrin

As Jon Melson say's, the speedo's very accurate and matched my sat nav indicated speeds when i tried it out :thumbup

ah right ok. Not really sure what made me think it, maybe i'm just getting used to the speeds of the bike, but seemed that I was going slower than the indicated. However, thats based on nothing other than feeling!

Apriliamoto, that was on the flat. Yea would be great if you could confirm.

If it's of any relevance my 2002 reads accurate to +1 mph at a steady 30mph indicated on a GPS ,and +1 to +2 at indicated 70 on GPS.

Not very technical I know but it certainly doesn't over read by the 9% + that the Suzuki did before I fitted a Speedo Healer.

I would think it's as accurate as you will ever get, although it is useful to have the speedo reading on the plus side just for those 'Oh ****' kind of moments.

Personally I think Luigi just slipped up and designed something correct for a change,he was probably aiming for something on the plus side but missed in his usual slipshod Italian fashion :dunno

I don't know if this will help but mine is -1@50kph and -1@100kph,I checked it out with the light thingy the cops put up on the side of the road to check your speed.

I guess it depends on rear tyre size also, now that I've changed to a 190/55, I must be going faster than the indicated speed.
Can anyone work out by how much?
