Hi

I have a rsv1000r factory, that has just started cutting out intermittently for fractions of a second when this happens feel a lack of power and slight suging have spent hours going though the connections, and testing voltages, spend a lot of time reading forums trying to get an insight into the fault, am leaning towards thottle position sensor or tip over sensor it feels like a fuel delivery problem, when the fault happens rolling the thottle seems to make fault disappear, and holding thottle open in one position seems to bring it on, would love to hear of similar problems and any thoughts on a solution

Yeah sounds like fuel pump, I am sure I have got a good one in the garage, away until Friday can check then if you want it.

Cheers Mark

The fuel pump does still make it normal priming noises when ignition is turned on, problem is so sporadic and random and brief , then returns to normal running, for a few more kilometers depending on how its ridden, fuel pump for sure is on my on my list to check and replace if needed, will keep updated, was running over some parts for work the first time it happened, had some small hydraulics parts stowed away under rear cowling, reading forums I have learnt about the tilt sensor and can't stop thinking about weather the items I was transporting have upset the tilt sensor

Will update with my findings
People benefit so much from this forum, fantastic reading for new owners

Yea so did mine. I was told (by Griff) that cheep fuel knackers the bearings and the pump is occasionally stalling

Hi
lazy wet weekend here in nz, good time take that fuel pump out, got out and found at the connector into the fuel pump assembly where two blue wires a orange and green wire sit in the fuel next to the mesh strainer a crack in the connector resin between the orange and green wire, would keen to know what others may think of this as thinking this could be the causing a intermittent short to the fuel pump, am going to proceed with changing pump and filters clamps and hoses while it's apart, keen to know if anyone has seen this crack in the connector resin ?

Yes I have seen it in a 2nd tank I bought. I think it's ethanol again attacking the plastic plus vibration/heat/age....beware of 'new' chinese fuel pumps on ebay. They are badly made and fail frequently, also make sure the intank fuel pipes are ethanol resistant !

Just to add another twist to my bikes issue, we have had a bad batch of fuel 91 and 95 octane with high concentrations of sulphur come though our fuel stations the wife's car has been playing up at the fuel sensor, do run bike on 98 octane which is not always available at all stations sometimes have to settle for 95 but always have used the same brand being bp stations, thinking about this while working on bike today, gotta wounder if this fuel is a having a impact on the way the rsv is behaving, any thoughts out there on the fuel we gave here in nz at the moment, fuel companies arnt saying to much about it at mo but have adimitted there is a problem and like my wifes car, awaiting a claim on getting the fuel sensor replaced, last two fills have been 95 octane at bp

At the fuel pump it has a sock type filter found this to be really hard to blow though the mesh and looking really discolored , the inline filter looking really dirty, pump itself is strong took to work and put across the testing gear, new filters ordered, crack in plug resin getting repaired, will change fuel stations to one not caught up in our fuel quality issues in NZ, and see if this fixes my intermittent problem, all fingers crossed, there have been threads posted in nz from a few other motorcyclists with fuel issues I last 10 days

For what my two cents are worth at today's exchange rate....I have a 2000 Mille and an '04 Tuono. Both in California. You are talking about the fuel possibly being the problem, but here the BEST fuel I can even get at the usual gas stations is 91 octane. Also California is an Ethanol believer which sucks because lots of stations are at 15%. At any rate, I have not had any issue similar to what you are experiencing. I do treat my fuel with StarTron, but the fuel around here is for sure lower grade than yours.
It sounds like you have a good place to start with the crack in the connector though. I'll be interested to see what happens when that gets fixed. Best of luck to you.

Just thought I'd post an update on my progress, my fuel system is in the process of a complete overhaule after finding a blocked prefilter with fuel varnish build up, my bike was a part of an estate sale and sat for two years before i purchased 6 months ago and all I've done is drain original fuel and service it and ride it, a crack in the bulkhead connector which upon inspection shoulnt matter as its just a bulkhead to incase the wires for the pump and low level led with no actual connections inside, have tested the pump to within a inch of its life and just refuses to fail even at 500kpa and what i would consider extreme heat for a small pump way beyond its limit and capacity, have run a injector cleaner though the pump running consistently over a few hours to remove any fuel varnish buildup, binned the prefilter I think prefilters cause more trouble then what there worth, working in the field of hydraulics I see prefilters on a weekly basis caviting and starving pumps and causing expensive repairs, i think the prefilter was unable to allow a constant flow of fuel to the pump when the demand came on causing breif starvation and rolling off the thottle allowing the prefilter to fill and catch up with the demand, new high pressure and return lines, injectors are out and been sent away to be disassembled and serviced if the prefilter had a varnish build up picking the internals of the injectors probably wouldn't be at optimum tolerances , I have opened up the entry port into the cavity where the pump draws fuel from as the original opening is pretty minimal no point having any restrictions pump needs what ever the pump needs, new genuine aprilia inline fuel filter I'm picking should be ample to do its job, don't see the point in filtering the fuel twice just makes pump work harder, the inside of my tank is spotless, my spark plugs are showing signs of running very lean picking lack of fuel has caused this, new plugs are on bench ready to go in, so just waiting for injectors to come back, refit everything and hit the go button, fingers crossed this will fix the hesitation when the demand comes on, even in bits the rsv factory still looks great, wife would argue though just a money pit to her

Hi, been a while have been persevering much, after new filters, fuel lines, injectors serviced, my misfire didn't disappear, new coils using aftermarket bosch 035 at this stage, still same result, removed stator cover and there it is, 6 coil windings fried, so new stator and rectifier on their way, not sure why, think getting cable out from between the cylinders is going to be fiddlest part,

Happy days ahead

Glad you have found the problem. You said in your first post that you had checked the voltages did it all check out? i.e you had no charging issues?
