Insurance and End Cans

Got an insurance quote for the RSV of £180, quite a bit more than my Ducati, but I can accept that. As soon as I mention it has a non standard end can, they either won't quote me or want £400. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did they overcome it. I'm tempted not to declare it, but a local mechanic wasnt paid out on his Ducati for having extra stickers on it...WTF

Someone has just told me this may be a standard can. Does anyone know?

I bought a Mille this time last year and I found a lot of insurance places did not like mods, so I asked the guy I bought it off where he got his insurance. It was ebike. Not sure how good they are (when you claim) but they will insure bikes with lots of mods for a reasonable price.

Rob :)

Think the rsvr has the same cannon as the standard mille . As for insuance I only do 3rd party , not worth the excess on comp , I just paid about the same with a named rider. Mllles are supposed to be reasonable to insure but it really depends on your post code as well ,

I went with Carole Nash this year,it was the cheapest quote (£160 fully comp) by £100,as Mille is now 10 years old they gave me classic insurance for upto 5 bikes as long as they are all at least 10 years old. That was with an aftermarket can as well.

I think you will find third party is often more expensive. Reason being Insurance compaies assume people who but Third party are more likely to make a claim. Try it?

Thanks Redmillie just got a good quote of carole nash for £160 Comprehensive. It didn't as about any mods, but in the fine print it says it will cover any accessories but no mention of moded parts. Think i will just play ignorance on that one

Forgot to mention fire and theft . Fully comp isn't much dearer but I weighed up the excess on a claim roughlly 650-750 to fork out on the excess and given the spares you can find and age of the bike , you know where I'm coming from . You got some good quotes there and probably a better post code than me .

Is it worth it to save a few quid? The small print also says something a lot like this....

You are responsible for telling us about all material facts that form the basis of your insurance policy. Material facts are those that your insurance company would regard as likely to influence the assessment and acceptance of your insurance. If you are unsure what facts are material, you should tell us and we will give you further guidance. Failure to tell us information relevant to your application for insurance may mean that your insurance could be invalidated and any claim not met by the insurer.

I would say that most insurers would class an aftermarket can as a mod and not as an accessory.

If you have to claim (which I hope you don't) and they don't honour the policy then you could find that you've just spent £160 on a worthless sheet of paper!

Well I just phoned carole nash and they weren't concerned about the end can and no change on the price, and they have made a note of it at my request. really good deal as well £165 with a £125 excess AA home start as well, plus legal cover and some other bits and bobs. deffinately well happy
