Been on 'The Bike Insurer' for my quotation.

MCE have come up the best at £337 comp and £150 TPF&T

Ive not had bike insurance for a number of years so dont have any no-claims to work with although I have full on my car.

The excess is high for the comp £500 voluntary and £500 Compulsary so this makes me think I may be better going for the cheaper option for my first year back.

No commuting needed as I work from home. Dont need a pillion covered unless it cheap as the missus is not that fussed but may come out once in a while if she can.

Any recomendations of companies to try?

i'm with mce..go for tpft..build a years no claims then next year do fully comp..fully comp only an advantage if you trash your bike..just remember..if you claim for your bike repairing with fully comp your next insurance quote will bankrupt you for at least 5 years bud..tpft..bin it repair it yourself.

I had a brand new 2001 Triumph TT600 that I binned 7 months in which was Third party F&T and I fixed myself as It would have definately been written off. Dealer estimated about £3k for parts and I sourced for £1k. Went fully comp once I started getting sensible prices with more no claims.

I agree, I think I will go for the cheaper option to get some no claims stored up.

I give it a shot and it comes up with the same results. So I am happy that its about the best deal.

Just need the delivery date now so I can set it up.

i've not found much difference between the cost of F/comp & TPF&T
i found motorcycle direct to have the lowest excess at only £150, i do have 5 yrs ncd

try dropping the legal cover.

I think your right apriliamoto, my neighbour swears by them.

Im going to go for the 3rd Party F&T for now as I need the spare cash to get it on the road.

hi mate, i used mce last year as they were the cheapest but this time round i tried 'simply bikes' who i have used before and they beat mce by £50 with a load of extras thrown in ... i dont think they are on comparison websites so theyre always worth a try. 28, 6 yrs ncd, all mods declared, £250 tpft ! bargain !

Hells teeth, im 28, 3yrs no claims, 3 points, 1 accident all declared and it was £150 tpft lol

Ive probably put soummit wrong in me policy lamo

I'm with MCE at the moment. My insurance is due next month so I went on Bike Insurer for a renewal and the best they quoted me was £195 Fully Comp. Only when I tried to buy it the price went up to 235. I had a good look around but most where coming up around the same. I was renewing this morning but I didn't have the current mileage for the bike and with a trip planned this weekend I didn't want to give them mileage until closer the renewal date. So I though I would leave it until next week. No sooner had I closed the web page the postman dropped my renewal from MCE quoting me £166. I was straight on the phone and paid in full.

no you havent, i live in a pretty rough area. all my garden ornaments are concreted down (not really but you get the idea) :biggrin

Confirmed my insurance tonight. MCE came up at £175 (dearer than last week) still the cheapest so I called them and he reduced my voluntary excess to 0 and it came out at £190 so I've gone with that. I also have valued the bike at market value this time no I have my hands on it, I wouldnt want to be paid out short by giving a cheap valuation.

Only problem now is the documents are electronic so looks like I cant tax it until next week! Then the MOT needs doing on the 11th so that might be Saturdays job if I can get a relay for the indicators and my forks changed tomorrow.

the value you put has no effect on what you get paid out in the event of a claim.

you will get market value at the time of the claim, if they are able to inspect the bike they will reduce the value for any pre accident wear and tear.

if it stolen and not recovered you will get current market value

If you go to tax it online and it has mot and insurance valid, it gets checked electronically there and then and you can tax it straight away !

Thats what my idea was but the insurance guy said it takes a week to 10 days to update on the DVLA site.

Then the MOT runs out on 11th of nest month and I am sure that if it has less than 14 days it wont go through. (I may have dreamt that last bit ;))
