OK LAST TIME I DID MY OIL CHANGE ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO I THINK I MAY HAVE OVER TIGHTENED EITHER THE ENGINE DRAIN PLUG OR THE FILTER COVER BOLTS CANT REMEMBER WHICH . ITS NOT LEAKING OR ANYTHING BUT IT WAS ONE OFF THEM MOMENTS WHEN THE BOLT JUST STARTED TO GO LOOSE AGAIN AS I WAS TIGHTENING IT UP OOPS .. YEAH I KNOW BUY A TORQUE WRENCH ;-(.

ARE THE HOLES TOO BIG FOR HELI COILS OR INSERTS ? AND WHERE DO YOU BUY EM FROM . I HAVE BEEN TOLD INSERTS ARE BETTER AS THEY ARE MORE PERMANENT ..

ANY ADVICE OTHER THAN TAKE IT TO A GARAGE NEXT TIME :biggrin

ps just looked up and oops in caps lock sorry .........................:thumbup

i've never had a problem with Heli-coils, always worked a treat!

best thing to do is check the condition of the threads to see what has actually happened first.

PS stop being a Ham Fisted spanner monkey ;-) a quick tap on the end of a spanner after going tight is all it needs

there is indeed at least another 5mm of thread, i bought my rsv with a butchered filter housing thread, i recovered what was left of the thread and bought some bolts M6x 25mm.
worked fine

You can get longer bolt and put some ptfe tape around the thred mate will help seal it

do you think i could tap the holes out bigger and use a bigger bolt maybe ?

Helicoil works just fine i had once a car brake caliber bolt with helicoil and it lasted just fine.

You can get complete Helicoil kits on Ebay for around £10 plus P+P.

I personally would go down the longer bolt route first but make sure it's not too long that it bottoms out and bursts the casing.
