After a bit of advice, owned a Street Triple for a couple of years but had to sell long story. So now in a position to get another bike and the Tuono 1000 has caught my eye (seems a lot of bike for the money).

Thing is heard so many horror stories about Aprillia and the electrics, lad next door had an rsv 1000 beautiful bike but seemed to spend more time being fixed than ridden.

So if I do bite the bullet and buy one any thing in particular that I should be on the look out for or be aware of ? Done lots of reading up but you know how these things throw up more questions than answers so thought I ask here to people who actually ride and own the bike. Also is the factroy worth the extra over the r as I'm no Vallentino Rossi.

Thanks in advance, thought I'd post here as it's my first post if I'm in the wrong place I can only apologise..

John.....

I had a gen 1 for 5 years awesome bike. Only bother I had was clutch gasket leaked so put new 1 on and sorted. Have a gen 2 now for few months.

Cheers for the response, My Triumph had quite a few problems like that and I can deal with the mechanical side of things as long as it's not to technical it's the electrics that have me a bit concerned but hopefully a few more will chip in and put my mind at rest.

How dose the gen1 compare to the gen2 been looking at both but think I prefer the gen2 tbh..

Welcome Jon boy. I do slightly prefer the looks of the Gen2, but front end is lower and tend to have more electrical issues than Gen1. I understand the legendary "Griff" of "Aprilia Performance, Tamworth" bought a Gen1, and they are the best for reliability.

They do have a few foibles (which may already be fixed on many bikes), but easily sorted, and well listed on this forum. Main thing is upgrade the battery and check earth connections are clean and not corroded (then make sure you open cold start lever fully and don't touch the throttle - to avoid the winter starting problem, but you'll have a few months to go for that).

Where abouts are you in the Midlands mate?

Cheers for the info Paul looks like it's the same for most bikes then as in the new ones are nice but the old are more sorted..

From Dudley mate ...

i ve had my gen 2 for 3 years now and put 8000 miles on it bringing it to a total of 21,00 miles . ive had no bother with it at all except something of my own making !! .

utterly reliable . buy one you wont regret it .

Had a gen 2 for 4 years and put a few miles on it.
No problems other than a bit of misting at the bottom right side of clocks.
They are a bit thirty, but they "egg you on" to ride them quickly.

Think of the garage time as bondng, they are amazing bikes and (in my opinion) worth a bit of grief every now and then for being both different from the herd and amazingly capable bikes.

Thanks for the replys, more or less made my mind up anyway but seems like everything else a lot gets blown out of proportion and you can't beat talking to people who actually own and ride the bike.

Save a few more quid and just go for it then .....

the rotax is bullet proof, put nearly 80k on mine, i needed a vtwin after riding a 999r, couldnt aford a 999 so bought a falco, i mod'd it so much only body work and frame were orginal, defo early bike when electrics are concerned

the only thing i will say as your coming off a triumph, they are heavey and you can feel like a passenger sometimes

otherwise solid bikes

Cheers info much appreciated can't be no heavier than the speed triple I tried now that was heavy..
