Hi got a problem with a dodgy ignition switch on 2002 rsv think its knackered I've seen one on eBay but its from a 2000 model will it fit my bike. Thanks

Are you sure it's the switch itself, just removed mine although it's working fine, found the plug terminals were a bit corroded as it's exposed to getting wet when the bike is washed as it's just zip tied to the consul frame with no rubber boot. There's only two wires. I expect they are the same, but don't quote me on that. Just two screws hold it on to the ignition switch

ignition

Yep its def the switch the key keeps jamming in lock but works ok in petrol cap

Hi mate 95% sure the ign switch SHOULD (this is only my opinion without seeing it) fit if its part number is AP8102910 for std RSV Mille,R and 1000R.uk spec.

Best thing to do if in any doubt and unable to find the part number is remove your ign switch and compare it to the Ebay one ie fixing points and electrical connector block /wires all match up.

It can be either easy but fiddly or an absoloute git to remove:dunno

Easy way:thumbup undo the 1st bolt normal head and 2nd bolt is a shear bolt for security (use hammer and puch and just hit around antoclockwise)then just disconnect the connector plug located just behind the instrument cluster on the right hand side(you may need to pop out the instrument cluster).

pain in the arse and wishing you'd never botherd way co's the shear bolt is soooooooo f###ing tight:banghead The top yoke needs to come off its easy enough but it's that 5min job becoming an afternoon job syndrome. (steerig yoke stem nut torque setting not drilled=80Nm but yours should be drilled and be=100Nm).

OOOOH and don't forget you will need a new shear bolt part number AP8150349(or just use a cap head bolt of the same size).

Hope this is of some use to you mate:roost

Or use a dremel and flatblade screwdriver to remove the shear bolt. Using a cutting disc in the Dremel cut a notch in the top of the bolt just deep and wide enough to take the blade of the driver properly. Most will be just above finger tight due to the lack of torque required to shear the bolt in the first place. Takes less than 5 minutes with the yoke removed, though removing that may take slightly longer as previously mentioned.

Oh yes. The steering yoke nut can be removed with a 17mm sump plug key. I know this because I've just done it to mine.

Removed mine the same way, dremmel a slot, but had to use an impact driver to undo it. My yoke nut needs a 14mm allen key to undo it.

or you could drill a small hole into the sheer bolt and use a stud extractor

or just drill the head off as the stud will then unscrew as tension will be gone after that .

just need a mole grip on the stud etc

You can't get a pair of Molegrips in to grip it mate.
