Idle speed control cable.

Hi everyone,

First post and I'm starting with a problem, will get on to more positive things later.

Just purchased an 05 gen 1, the idle control doesn't work. The guy I brought it off told me he thinks he snapped the cable it one day and he hasn't bothered with it since, he just holds the throttle open a bit until it's warmed up.

Bike is currently in transit so just wondering if I need to order a part or wait till it gets here and have a good look?

I'd wait and see, idle control suggest the idle speed adjuster under the tank, right side- whereas the fast idle lever is in the left controls. Vague enough to justify waiting and investigating. I'd get it sorted to avoid frustration though, takes mine a fair while to warm up, and using the throttle when starting could lead yo flooding it.

Definitely wait. You don't know if he snapped the lever connection to the cable, or the cable itself. You will want to get it sorted though.

Good to see another kiwi on here. Which bike did you get?

Aprilia tuono 2003 | Trade Me

Got it for a decent price and it's close enough to home to get it dropped off. Listed as an 03 but Carjam says it is an 05, probably doesn't make a lot of difference though.

Magnet Grey makes it a 2003.

Thanks for the info. Must have been first registered in 05 or someone at NZTA with sausage fingers pushed the wrong button entering it into the database.

Yes, probably registered in 2005. My '03 magnet grey model was registered March 04... but no doubt some models were registered later especially via slow boat to 'down under' :)

Pulled the tank and airbox off today and removed the cable. I couldn't get the cable to move inside the housing at all, no signs of external damage at all so I am assuming water has gotten inside the cable and rusted it. Even when I cut off the fittings at either end of the cable it still wouldn't pull through. The rubber seal at the top was ripped so it possibly caused the issue.
