Flip flops to ride to the shops do you realize a couple of facts

A good set of leathers is worth 5 layers of skin:eek:

Most accidents happen within 5 miles of home(just nipping down the shops):confused

Ambulance crews do not have much syphathy if you dont wear leathers.

If you come off in excess of 70 you will skin yourself even if you dont brake bones with no leathers:dowhat

Ive have ridden a lot of years and visited lots of mates in hospital from accidents so it is just a case of kit your self up as good as possible and keep riding and enjoying:thumbup BEATS SKIN GRAFTS

STAY SAFE GUYS BUT ENJOY:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup:biggrin

What sort of flip flops ? Those animal ones look like they give loads of protection.

I've been in Greece and most of the people on bikes there seem to be in shorts and T shirt and no helmet. I always worry how those people get on.

I reckon a mankini over the top of leathers is the way ahead ! :)

was in almeria south spain earlier this year, most people out there were using horse riding helmets and swiming trunks:jack:lol

even the police bikers were wearing short sleeved shirts

Yeh, you make your choice, be cool on your bike in shirt sleeves or be cool in your air conditioned Volvo (in full leathers, just in case!):puke
Were the cops wearing flip flops?:pisser2

If you come off the bike at speeds in excess of 50MPH then you'll be down to the bone within the length of an average white line.

Take a look at these beauties - It's not pretty

Just keep it under 50mph and you'll be allreet! I always do 'officer':thumbup

One last thought........

If you where a crash helmet and shorts do you value you head more than the rest of your body.:dunno

If you destroy the rest of your body at least you will still be able to think about it......:dowhat

just think about my signature:thumbup

Helmets are a legal requirement. shorts are optional!!:nana

When I first rode young and stupid helemts werent required it was sun glasses and sandals...where cool heah but still alive some arent
My brother spent 7monfhs in papworth after hitting a post at 90mph he came home alive and screaming the house down in his sleep////
He only hit it with his head ......???????
Still alive and kicking flying yacks for fun .......

Yeh, I had a bad crash 26 yrs ago when I was 20, face first through a dry stone wall, skull fractured in 3 places, jaw broke etc, intensive care, ventilator, still here though.:eek:mg What bike was I riding? - push bike - question: should cyclists wear full face helmets and leathers instead of super thin lycra??
It's all a case of practicality and personal choice. Make youre own choice but don't complain if it all goes wrong.:bigok

Something similar happened to me on my push bike just over twenty year's ago, I only ended up with three smashed teeth and cut's an bruises though, no other broken bone's.

I alway's wear my full kit when I go out on the bike, i'd rather sweat while i'm out and be a little safer, than be cool but end up with no skin and bit's of bone missing if the worst were to happen.

Each to their own though, we all rate danger differantly and take differant chance's. I get called a nutter because of some of the other thing's I like to do in my life, fun mean's differant thing's to differant people.

On a push bike I snapped the bone in my wrist, broke a thumb, broke a big toe, cracked ribs and lots of different cuts and stitches all at different times
My kids have had broke wrists, collar bones, ankles fractured skull, 36 stiches in the chin,

JUST THINK THIS WAS AT LESS THAN 30mph

This was all at bmx racing but still kept doing.

It was still good fun and you take risks for fun some as motorbikes which always happens to someone else

Ok. Do you speak out about safety when you see videos and pics of members of this forums dragging their knees and pulling whelies on public roads?
