Since this hot weather I have seen many F*cking Idiots riding in London with ONLY Shorts and FlipFlops!

How stupid can some people be, if they come off it's road rash time. I think there should be a law to say you must cover exposed flesh :dunno

I still remember doing my first day of bike training, and some other kids turned up with no gloves, they were sent home, with the words " at 30mph, you will wear grind through 2mm of bone for every 10 metres you travel along the average road, and the flesh doesn't count towards any of it".

I have always worn gloves, whether fingerless or racing, and worn boots, but am quite happy to wear jeans rather than leathers, and must confess i did once go for a spin around the m25 in a tshirt, it was so hot, but it made me extra careful.

These days, more than 50% of bikes on the road, don't have any protection on, apart from the helmet, of which, again, i sometimes choose to remove when riding.

Its down to personal choice, thats what biking has always been about. I would rather some ******* wipes his arm or foot off, or twats himself out of existence , aka darwin, than have more interfereing head up their own arse left wing ****** up no gooders sticking there over inflated oar in, and tell me i MUST have the latest inflateable safety gear, and a hi viz vest, and daytime running lights, and not exceed 70mph cos my bikes got a limiter fitted, along with the 50 bhp limit, and the 65 decibel noise limit.

No thanx, i would rather keep it old school, and let the knobbers learn the hard, and i'll keep doing what i like doing, which in this nazi state we share, is my choice, and only my choice.

ride free. :biggrin

Who made you the police?

I can't stand blokes like you- what you wear when you ride your motorcycle is up to you. If I fall off in my shorts and flip-flops, that's up to me.

Next thing you'll want a 33bhp restriction and two front wheels a'la Piaggio MP3.

I'm an adult, I can wear what I want unless it causes offence to other people.

Get a life.

Arrhhh but when u have got it all wrong and need putting back together, by been a "ADULT" u then start taking up beds in hospitals and costing the NHS ££££££ but hey **** it YOUR ALRIGHT JACK :jack

Raw nerves indeed ................I hate "selfish" people that is those that do "what the **** they want to do" because ultimately it affects us all, the publics perception of motorcylists is bad enough as it is ... so lets make it worse for ourselves eh ?

**** it Im riding home tonight in my boxers , baffles out, headlight off, and pass everything on the back wheel at 100mph......................cant see what the problem is.

Go to Saudi Arabia if you don't want to see any exposed flesh :doug:doug

Listen to me, you dare call me a w@nker, come do it to my face.

Who the hell are you aswell? Let me explain:

I'm 26 years old, never been hospitalised, don't smoke, barely drink and thankfully haven't even been to a GP since Feb 2008. My drain on the NHS? Hmmm, negligable.

My advice would be buy a car- then you get a big metal safety cell and comfy air bags. I ride a bike for many reasons, but one of them is to feel free.

I raced motocross for 6 years (250 2 stoke/450 4 stroke) and now just do track days. Fast group of course.

Then I wear the best safety equipment I can afford- always a back protector, always one piece leathers.

But when I want to pop to the newsagents to get the paper, then I ride the 3 miles in whatever I choose.

But may I point out that I post under my real name.
I'm a real life human being called Jon.
And you just called me a ******. Sorry 1" **** Eater, didn't realise we where in the playground?

ohh, looks like i have touched a nerve ;-)

yeah you have :thumbup

I agree with Jacko by the way.

I wear leathers, gloves and boots because i dont want to die in the event of a small spill through loss of blood from grazes. Kallio ring finger at assen as an example of what happens when wearing gloves ( k he was doing 130 but you get the idea).

You dont want to wear protective gear your choice

my choice to call you a nob if you dont

Jon chill out dude its a forum everyone has an opinion

Which part of which post used the word "w@nker" ?

Just curious as I know I didnt use that particular word

Oh by the way my name is Scott, I'm a 45 year's old and have been riding since I was 15.......................at 26 you aint seen much of the world yet.

This is getting hot.

I have to say that I don;t agree with Jacko. Everyone assests the risk of riding a motorbike at a given moment and wears accordingly.
In summer I ride my mille to work within London in trainners. Why? because I rarely reach more than 40mph so I take the risk. In Spain, I always ride a scooter to the beach in flip flops and shorts for the same reason. Yet, whenever I go outside London I always wear protection gear, including back protector, always. If the regulation changes and I am obliged to wear boots at all times, I will do but as long as I have the choice, I will do as I consider appropiate. errrrrr that's it!

kiwi it was the smiley thingy me bob, i re-read cos i missed it too (yep i am pretty sad) , missed the 1" **** thing though , i would have rang BB about that he likes them he does (so i heard)

Sergi - Wear what you want dude for whatever reasons but allow other people to pass judgement
we were at squires on sunday and a lass was wearing shiny lycra skin tight trousers looked awesome but zero safety. I have worn jeans and paddock jacket (with armour) and boots for a quick journey 2-3 miles, but never flip flops and shorts.

The other day when i was on the bike rally through london I was wearing a hoody, jeans and hiking boots and proper gloves. which is about as far as i like to go.

The thing thats not being taken into consideration is that when your out in london with little wind flow it gets really bloody hot under a leather jacket, which is when (for me at least) you start to lose concentration, get frustrated and do stupid things.

So i weigh up the risks based on the type of riding i'm doin then I decide what is most apropriate for me to wear.

We are talking about safety here. If you want to be safe you have to wear back protector at all times and I don't mean the rubbish CE approved you get with any leathers but a proper aftermarket one. Also, since it is safety we are talking about, we should all wear an airbag jacket at all times when riding since it may avoid serious injury. How about ABS in the motorbike? I could go on with the list. The question is that you assess the risk and you may consider that to go to the supermarket on the motorbike wich is 1mille away within your town you may not want to wear your back protector, boots and leathers. I agree that flip flops and shorts is not a good idea to ride a scooter (coz I don't think anyone can ride a manual geared motorbike in flip flops) but ultimately, since the regulation don't ban it, it is the rider's choice.

Jesus Christ boys! Calm down... I would have never thought that this was such a hot topic. So a law saying cover up might be too much, I was just trying to think of a way to stop fools from getting mangled and killed.

But your right, am not happy about being forced to do stuff either.
Maybe an ad campaign of real bad bike crashes showing ripped of skin and bone showing might help.

What do you think?

Mate, you've just made a solid case for banning motorcycles alltogether.

but ultimately, since the regulation don't ban it, it is the rider's choice.

Think we are making the same point (i agree about flip flops and gears aswell, must cain your feet changing gear)

I was just responding to Jon saying dont be offended when someone speaks out about it:thumbup
