I want to buy a 250cc 2 stroke

D

danf1234

Ihave been after buying a decent 2 stoke for almost a year now, but I am now in a position to move from casual looking to some serious buying.

The 4 I have in mind are:

Suzuki RGV 250 - Really want
Aprilia RS 250 -
Honda NSR 250
Yamaha TZR 250

I have set my eyes on a suzuki RGV 250, but it is proving like finding rocking horse **** to get one.

Has anyone got any pointers, of what to look out for, where to look etc.

I just missed out on one at Pagetts in Bately, so I was gutted.

Looking to spend about £2000.

Hi,

Best site for rgvs is www.rgv250.co.uk, check their for sale as alot of them are well looked after. I had a Aprilia 98 rs250 track bike, was an amazing fun bike would of kept it if it had a V5. An rgv or aprilia is your best bet (shared engines) a few more bits swop over. 2k will get you a decent bike just be careful of poor engine maintenance, Good luck.

When did the regs change on the sales of 2 strokes?

When is the cut of from getting a full on monster 2 stroke to a flat as a fart EU regulated emissions pile of toss?

Not that im biased or anything but i had one of these babys :)

I reckon definatly one of the best 2 strokes you can buy however as you have already posted getting hold of them can be quite difficult if your after a Honda the MC21 is the one to go for.
You wont get an MC28 as theyve all been bought up by collecters and racers however the earlier MC18 is a great bike as well.
Happy 2 stroke hunting

two strokes now your talkin!!!

rgv and aprilia is the future for me!!!

got an lc and a gamma 250 (yammagamma project) myself!
engine build around every 12000 miles

check the history ,check the history ,check the history! engine builds are expensive!!!

body panels plentiful, make sure its straight, you'll have the grin for sure if all of these things fall into place im sure!!!

If i can help gimme a call !!!

now i'm watching this thread with interest. Im young enough that they were still about when I started riding but were all old nails so I never bought one.

I have a tinkering for a 250cc track bike though

I almost bought an RGV last year as a project, sort of wish I had still ...

RGV definitely the one I reckon!

Well i dont normally get emotional about bikes but seeing as you have got me into the 2 stroke idea check this baby out :) my ideal bike

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...icleYearOfManufacture=1994&vehicleRegLetter=L

That is probably one of the rarest bikes ever
brings tears to my eyes what a machine :)
But on a more serious note the prices of these 250s are expensive to say the least makes me wish i hung onto mine.
I was warned about the RGV when i was in the market for a 250 but i think it was only to the fact it shared the same engine as the Aprilia if im right ?

Happy shopping

Cheers Dan

Why whats wrong with the Aprilia's? I thought their 2 stroke bikes were pretty good!!!!

Hey all you stroker experts, maybe you can advise.
Mate of mine's just got hold of a TZR250 YPVS - apparently he's been told it's a 3MA5 model (that mean anything?).
My limited research suggests that this might be a reverse cylinder one (don't know until I go and see it tonight) and might make it worth a bit.
He says it's seized but in reasonable condition.
There's what's claimed to be a 3MA5 currently on a WeeBay classified asking £3,100 (!). Sounds like a **** load of cash for an old stroker. Is this realistic? Should my mate rebuild the motor? Break it? Sell as is?
He's a very good mate of mine, self employed but not working while he has chemo and needs all the cash he can get, so no, I won't be taking it off his hands for £50!
Any info or thoughts appreciated.

my mate had the r/c model.

i think all tzr reverse cylinder models had the exhausts comeing out of the back next the back light.

pat.

The reverse cylinder TZRs had a reputation for seizing as they couldn't get enough cold air to cool them.

Cool looking with the pipes coming out of the tail piece though!

Would look around for parts as suspect they are relatively hard to come by, and consequently expensive.

That one on ebay is in hideous colours as well!

Saw it tonight - not a reverse cylinder one but an E-Reg parallel twin that's been seized, had the head taken off and then left in a shed for two years. Told him to break it - anyone want any bits?
Thanks for your input guys.

Strokers are Money Pits, they are not looked after, have had a collection of owners most of whom had no idea what they need, will have been abused and generally thrashed....

Go get one whilst you can....

The TZ'z the best..... IMHO :D
