How much oil does your Gen2 use??

My Tuono R, bought new in July (2009 model), had it's first service at 620 miles and now has 2,500 miles on it. I'd noticed the oil level had been dropping and checked it properly at the weekend (engine warm).

The level had dropped below the sight tube - it took c.600-700ml of oil to get it back to about 2/3 of way between the low and high marks (didn't want to overfill it).

Does this sound about right? I ride the bike fairly hard but don't thrash it (probably change up at 8000rpm 80% of the time).

I've got around 6,500 miles on my 07.5. I changed it with full synthetic at 600 miles and again at 4,000 miles. It has used hardly a drop since new. I don't drive it very hard, but rev it out to redline a couple of times on every ride. I have 3 bikes and have broken them in per the factory recommendations. I haven't had to add any oil to any of them between oil changes.

Mine uses nowt

I remember a thread on this just before the old TZone went down.

I think the conclusion was it varies a lot but dosn't seem to reflect on engine health

PS guess you already know but sight tube is a **** fer measuring oil in the engine, too many variables. Anyone for a long vs short filter debate???

Bought my Gen2 same time as you it did not use any oil up to 625 mile first service

Has now covered just shy of 1600 miles and has not used any oil

I have followed the guidance for running in in 6K revs up to 625 miles then 1000 rpm for every 100 miles thereafter. Except that I have not taken it above 9000 rpm

I thought u changed up at about 2k when I followed you from llandovery back to Abergavenny

When I used to go out for a walk with my sweet, frail, only slightly smelling of piss old granny I used to walk extra slow. I'm nice like that.

my gen 2 uses about 150ml per 1000 k's, i was worried for a while but it goes like stink so i just top her up

Pretty much the same fur me wi aboot 100cc -150cc top up evri thoosand clicks or so. Whit a find 'kin annoyin tho is the affy erratic nature o the "levels" despite tryin tae be consistent whin checkin and daein it by the book. Too easy tae ower fill it if nae watchin.

Never laughed so much.

Since ma hoose caught fire.

...still...shes not called me a fud yet....but I guess it's only a matter of time :)

Fully synthetic

For those with too much money.

What do you think your Aprilia is a GP bike?

Whats the point in that mate? Just cost you more dosh.

No point really other than fully synthetic being a better engineered lubricant, and the price difference is minimal, There are numerous web sites on Google explaining the benefits of using a specific type of oil and recommend oil change intervals. I always use Putoline and with the JASO spec.
