Hi all,
Thanks for all your advice on the rad covers, i'm gonna go for the black ones.
My question today is: I want to improve the gearing on my 2008 tuono R as it seems a lil long, i was going to go down 1 tooth on the front sprocket but i have been told to go up 2 teeth on the back instead as this would improve the handeling too, am i right in thinking going down 1 on the front is the same as going up 2 and a bit on the back? am i better off going up 3 on the back sprocket? all replies most welcome....cheers...:thumbup

you'd have to check the gearing worksheet in the file vault, but i believe -1 in front = +3 in back. :O

never heard the handling argument before...i guess going down in the front would technically give you better handling...but i think it would be minimal at best.

Gearing

Hi M8,
Made it on here......You deffo need to go down one tooth on the front sprocket and a lot of guys on the other Aprilia forum recommend going up 2 teeth on the rear as well:thumbup. On mine I have just gone down 1 on the front until I have to change chain and sprockets.

On my Tuoldo Racing I went down 2 teeth on the front and up 2 teeth on the back:lol It was like a firecracker:yes

I also tried the bodge I told you about for the back brake, I hung a container of 4 litres of oil off the rear brake pedal overnight last night and my back brake was good today.

The meet I told you about is next Saturday 9.30 at Newtown Mcd's:thumbup

Nice 1 buddy, glad you made it here..... i was advised to go up on the back as this would make the bike handle better as it pulls the wheel further forward, Nice one about the Newtown meet i will try my very best to be there, i may have to pull a sicky off work.....

New to the forum and new to the Tuono. Mine gets delivered on the 5th. A common theme seems to be to go down 1 tooth on the front. Can anyone reccomend a good UK mail order place and some details of the sprocket needed.

Cheers

B and C Express in Louth (Nr Cadwell) are Renthall stockists

No.

Tuono Speedo counts pulses from the rear disc bolts - altering final drive ratios has no affect on speedo accuracy.

Cool, it's a pity the japanese don't use the same system, i changed the gearing on my Blade once and needed a maths degree to work out how fast I was going!!

Going with the 15/42 will shorten the wheel base a little, in doing so it can help handeling.
I don't know if 16/43 will work with stock chain???

I'm running 15-42 and it's fantastic (saves a fortune on front tyre wear as well):lol:lol

15-42 will fit with the std chain but I think 15-43 might be tight unless you're chain is well worn. I doubt 16-43 would fit with the std chain unless you know better anyone??)

Hi Falco9 am going to change to a 15 front & leave 42 rear when i put on a new rear tyre this week, did it shorten the gearing much & make 5th easier to use cruising..cheers

My 08 Factory comes with a spare front sprocket "for racing use" - I'm assuming it's a 15 tooth - anybody confirm?
What effect / advantages does it have fitting this over standard?

Yup, I'd bet it is the 15t front (not too hard to count em eh? (LOL))

A very worthwhile swap, improves drive no end, handy around town where you'll normally find yourself slipping the clutch at low speed etc...knocks a few mph off the top end but even on 15-42 (std is 16-40) I can see 150mph+ easily.

And if you like saving on front tyre wear, 3rd gear wheelies no problem :thumbup

Worth a swap, easy to do just remember to loctite the sprocket bolt back in and torque it to the correct setting

Just counted the teeth Falco and you are right, it is a 9t front sprocket. Might have it fitted at first servvice next week!
