Standard cans get proper hot as you found out, after market one seem to dispense the heat quicker, to get the melted bag off ya gotta get it hot again and lightly scrape it off will something like a wallpaper scraper, then lightly go over the area with a fine to medium scotch pad, but only go in the direction off the grain :thumbup

My can and whole frame get quite hot. I was told it's quite normal. Never had a bike that gets so hot before!! I know the twin fans don't help!!

The reason you got that caked onto the can is simple........................ just take the whole f*&king can off my friend........................

Take it off, give it back to the crew of the Queen Victoria cruise liner and apologise for borrowing their anchor ................. buy yourself a goodun...................:devious

Your next exhaust will not let that happen.......

Cheers

I agree... what the **** are you thinking. Coming on here and asking about a 'standard' can... are you on crack?

Standard What??????

I gave mine to the local gas comapny to put in the ground to service the town.

Get rid mate and dont look back at the saddamm supergun.

are you mental?
that plastic bag didn't just fall off it was your bike self harming itself.
what self respecting sports bike carries around a lamppost tied to its back end?

recycle it so it can be turned into a fridge freezer and treat your bike to some carbon fibre loveliness.

honestly aprilia never meant for it to stay fitted to their flagship sportsbike.
performance, soundtrack and MASSIVE weight saving await

The standard can is actually a left-over booster from the space shuttle program.
(Don't tell anyone but I fit my standard can back on for trackdays - sssshhhhh)

soooooooooo... you guys aint keen on the standard exhaust then... lol !? :dunno

One does tend to get that impresssion :thumbup

I just had to fit my standard can back on as the Carbon Scorpion it came with has started to self destruct. Now been kicked back to manufacturers under warranty.

Have to say it doesn't sound to bad,but seems to have taken the edge off the performance a bit, and YES the pipe work does get hot enough to sizzle and melt boot heels.

i gave my mate a lift @ lunch today (C90 owner :puke)... now bare in mind id just cleaned off the plastic bag over the weekend... im riding along & i can smell burning plastic... but alot stronger than before... feck me... if he aint wearing bleedin 'Derry Boots' !! :rant

bloody things melted all over my exhaust... again... 2 days after cleaning the other ***** off... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh !! :angry

:biggrin

Eeee just pmsl at the last post on here- tremendous...made my morning.
So a couple of questions; Does an after market can really give much of an appreciatable performance increase? Also, do you think that the weight of the original can was factored into the balance of the bike?

Just for the record I quite like the original muffler shock horror

warm it up and then peel of and brush and polish while hot :) maybe a cook would do it better than you a they tend to have experience with melted things on metal so you might get involve your wife/gf .or both lol

If you seen what is actually in the standard can you would know why its so hot

Its a maze of pipes and baffling with a tiny peice of wadding

I cored and shortened the standard cans and they dont get as hot

Noise tested at cadwell last week and 104.7 beautiful

I'll admit to liking the original can as well,it has a presence!!! Make sure you hire a crane when you take it off! I'm renting mine out to a family of Romanian gypsies,i've welded up both ends of course! You will definately notice a performance difference even if it's just through weight saving!
