just been trying to remove the allen headed bolts from the exhaust hangers where they screw into the subframe and JESUS they were tight!! had 2 use an inpact driver to get 2 out and the other 2 have pretty much rounded the heads:mad1:mad1 i dont know if they were so tight due to the last owner getting over enthusiastic with tightening or if the steel thread had "welded" onto the aluminium? has anyone else had this problem? ne idea how i can get the other bolts out without drilling? or have any spare allen headed screws lying around?! cant be that hard surely! all i want to do is have the bike ready for when jonty's carbon brackets arrive!!

now thats a question! lol i will have to check m8, will try nd pop out to the garage in a bit and let you know! cheers bud

hi andi as far as i can tell the allen screws are 20.5mm long (1") and 7mm across (thread)

juat had a look at the workshop manual and apparently these screws are m6

Jeez ! That screw looks like it had Araldite on it !

I would recommend carefully running a tap through the hole to clean the threads before replacing the screw.

Thats the trouble with button head screws when they are tight, the driving key is to small to handle the necessary torque.

If you do have to drill it use a 5mm drill bit then remove what is left of the screw

Copper grease the new ones before they go back in. Will save you a world of hurt next time they need to come out :)

it wouldnt surprise me if the last owner did use araldite! every bloody bolt ive undone so far has be way over tightened!! i really dont want to have to resort 2 drilling them out but will deffo be tapping the thread again!

You might try giving a good soaking in WD 40 then put a cut across the head, and with a hammer and chisel gently but firmly tap anti-clock

Or my favourite using say a 10mm dia bit, drill just deep enough to take the screw head off.that will allow the bracket to be removed leaving a stub the thickness of the bracket to get a pair of Mole grips on.

If that doesn't work then drilling the core out is your only option.

youll be glad 2 hear i finally got them out this morning! tried sawing off the head 1st to do what iang suggested, broke the saw blade lol then did what sandy v2 suggested, mashed the allen screw completely but just managed to get it loose enough to unscrew the *******! hangers are now for sale if anyone is interested? and need 2 more allen head screws! thank god its done though and cheers for the help guys, much appreciated!
