Wow - looks like a lot of faffing about to me - why not just fit some Akrapovics and be done with it?

Oh I see - however you could get 2nd hand Akros for a lot less than £500....say £300

Then sell them when you have finished with them for £200 - net cost £100.

Just a thought....................

:lol:lol:lol:lol

Like that miserly Roman emperor - Titus Afishes (that's watertight man) lmao

I love my Akras BTW. I think they're worth the extra dosh. You can core the standard set and keep them as spare in case you bin it (God forbid).

G'day alysdad,
I've just finished re-coring a set of cans.I was able to get a set of Black RSV ones off e-bay practacilly brand new for $300 Aus. 550mm of 65mm stainless baffle pipe $94. Two bags of repacking $90. Rivets $ 30.It cost me a tad over $500. Way better than the $1400 quoted for a set of factory made cans. :thumbup I too found it hard to see the value in so much for bugger all gain in a set of "off the shelf cans".Or is it my grandparents scottish genes coming to the surface!
A couple of things I found to make the job easier;
1) don't use a cold chisel to remove the cat. I used a drill with a bit long enough to reach to the lower weld (3/16 I think).simply drill as many holes around the cat you can.Then I used a long bolt with a large head dia. and punch it out. Careful not to damage the pipe as it is hit at an angle.
2) I used a hacksaw to cut the end cap off the inner assembly.2min. job. Angle grinder too severe.
3) As the bafflepipe fits inside the outer end cap perfectly (cut at an angle),it is too small at the other end (75mm inner dia), a quick fix was to use some of the baffle approx.40mm. Cut a slot in it length ways to fit around the baffle. Now use 3or4 stainless rivets to hold the baffle pipe1 1/2" (65mm)stainless baffle piping instead of the dodgy screws in case they drop out into the pipe.
They sound louder at 60kph than 100kph.They do make the kitchen floor vibrate at idle while warming up! They also set off some car alarms in multi-storey carpacks. :lol:lol
After getting changed over to map2, it's really clean from 2000rpm and really hauls arse from around 5000. WELL WORTH DOING.
Hope this helps anyone who can not afford a set of Akros or Mivvs.
:cheers
