Possibly a stupid question, but I need to ask your thoughts as I've only had my Aprilia a few days...Ok here we go...
Is it me or do they get incredibly hot;not engine temperature as such, although it does appear to warm up from cold very quickly, but everything metal that's attached!!
Frame, exhaust, engine casings etc... appear ridiculously hot after a ride and stay hot/warm for hours afterwards ( my lad melted his trainer on the exhaust when he did the pretending to hang off Dad's bike thing). The temp guage doesn't appear to be indicating anything out of the ordinary but one does worry over a new member of the family!
Any thoughts/comments welcome otherwise I'll just assume the mobile barbeque effect is normal!
Cheers :confused

Somethig i noticed, was with stock cans they got at Least 3-5 times hotter than after market slip-ons, possibly in turn, rest of engine as well.

Not really noticed any excessive heat on the frame or engine on my 07.

The stock cans got bloody hot though - the Arrow carbon cans are a lot cooler.

The back of my legs warm up though, where the exhaust risers are.

Thanks for the initial replies, I'm fairly certain nothing is too far out of the ordinary as my Brother-in -law bought an 06 model the same day (rich get!) and his is exactly the same, especially the cans - he burnt his finger on them trying to rub out a mark..oops!!

Same situation here, I'm running stock cans for now until I can core them. They do run hot and I notice it in my right leg area where the header goes down (beside the rear shocks)

It's an advantage up here in Canaduh. It get's cold in the morning when I commute to work. I just squeeze my legs in a little bit to feel the heat.

:cheers

wow, who need birth control, just buy and 04 onwards mille and boil those man juices. ha ha

The original cans have the Cat in them and much more metal to heat up. Aftermarket ones seem to be better at getting rid of the hot gases and keeping cool.

From an engineering point of view is it not better that the engine takes a long time to cool down. Cooling things slowly is a less likely to cause anything to miss shape. And heating up fast can only be a good thing to get the oil up to temperature..

80-100 is what mine runs at most of the time through traffic.

Thanks for this, it's all simple when someone shows you how it's done!!! The Cat in the Cans issues though certainly explains the intense heat; time for some aftermarket rumble pipes I think!!

So its not just mine then! Went for a blat the other day and had to look down as I thought maybe one of the cans had caught light.Glad others have it too. As an all year rider I can see this feature coming in useful in January.......

And for impromptu barbecues. :cheers

It's a V-twin thing...

My TLR was worse in my opinion....

It has to do with where the cylinders are compared to an inline.. Remember, on a twin you have a cylinder right under you....
